Chapter 34 – Dawn
"Ava," Cream Puff's voice hummed low, careful yet urgent, "I've completed further analysis. The space will not be affected by the new energy signature."
Ava exhaled the breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She flopped back against the armrest of her study chair, hair spilling into her face as dawn's pale light began to leak faintly through the curtains. "Oh thank goodness… you have no idea how worried I was that we'd wake up tomorrow and all our supplies would rot or mutate into… I don't know, killer tomatoes."
The little orb pulsed indignantly, glowing a sharper shade of gold. "I would never let that happen."
Ava chuckled, rubbing her eyes as the first hints of birdsong outside reminded her just how late—or early—it was. "I know, Cream Puff. But still—relief is relief."
