The next morning came not with sunrise, but with a pulse of light.
In Hope's Refuge, "morning" was whatever Cream Puff decided it was, and apparently, the system had chosen "now."
The training chamber brightened gradually, the walls shifting from cool starlit silver to a soft dawn hue. Mist rolled over the crystalline floor, parting as the team stirred awake in their bunks.
Zephyr groaned from the top bunk, with a stretch, covering his face with a pillow. "Nooo. Tell the AI it's too early for productivity."
Alyssa sat up instantly, already checking her wrist display. "You said that yesterday. And the day before. And you still got up first to eat."
Zephyr peeked over the edge, grinning. "Food is sacred. Sleep is negotiable."
"Your priorities are backwards," Brian muttered, pulling on his jacket.
