Chapter 73 - Chapter 73 - Reforming the Curriculum

Basilio's POV

"There are some students in this academy, who were taking summer classes currently," Azmiya said to me, "had been complaining on the subjects of combat, sword fighting, and gunnery being mandatory for them."

I understood it as leader of Ruslav. "Ah, no wonder with the militaristic society of this land…"

She nodded lowly. "Yes, survival here is at utmost importance, so learning how to fight and defend was a must, for centuries."

Because of that, I planned to reform the school's curriculum and reestablish the school as an academy for everyone.

The subjects of combat and fighting will be optional for them, while the basic subjects of arithmetic, reading, and writing, as well as history, ethics, and basic sciences, will be mandatory in a simpler way of understanding them.

I said these proposals to Azmiya, and she agreed to it right away. So, I went back to the castle and started laying out and drafting a new curriculum for Nuevo Tacloban's school with the reforms in mind. I used my laptop's Microsoft Document software to write a draft of it easily.

So, tonight, I started writing the draft for the new curriculum, which would be the basic standard one for schools across the country. The writing work took an hour, with me constantly erasing, rewriting, rearranging, and selecting subjects for each grade of education. According to it, the standard number of years for education is four years, but it can be adjusted according to a student's needs (either those who had the basic education and/or basic skills or those who had partial education in the basics).

Also, for payments in monthly tuition in the academy in here Nuevo Tacloban, the base tuition is 10 Ruslav Pesos per month (before I came to this world, work is mandatory for paying for the salaries of the faculty staff here), but labor for a few hours per day or every few days can make most or all of the payment instead of paying with cash/money entirely. Additionally, OJT (On-The-Job) will be introduced and will be mandatory for a minimum number of days (can be from 20 days to 35 days) for all students. Those who were freshmen had easier jobs while senior students were expected to do difficult jobs before graduation. And as for the subjects for the first year, I had laid out the subjects for it: arithmetic, reading, and writing (can be exempted if a student can do these things beforehand), history, ethics, and basic sciences. For the second year, basic sciences and more history would comprise the bulk of it. Third and fourth years will be mostly optional high mathematics and mandatory history and ethics.

The curriculum will also introduce a lot of more optional and vocational courses like human anatomy, medicine, law, and diplomacy, as well as combat, gunnery, swordsmanship. These had the same base tuition fees as the mandatory ones and their alternative means of payment.

So, after all that, I immediately printed it out using a magical inkjet printer in my room. It was now done, and I was quite excited to show this to my circle and Azmiya tomorrow morning.

And so, that day came, and I did so. They, including Azmiya, were quite impressed with how it turned out. Though I offered to adjust based on their suggestions, they accepted my proposal, with some of them voicing the complaints of the students from the capital city's academy.

And then, on that day, the current curriculum at the state academy (not a royal one because this country is a legal republican government) had been overhauled and replaced with my new one. Now the students who had been dreading the mandatory subjects found their schoolwork lighter and more manageable and were grateful for me and Azmiya, who found my new curriculum much better than the old one, which was called the Alfonso curriculum.

For the latter, I asked, "Why it was called like that?"

Azmiya then looked at me. "He was our founder and more of the ancestor of all the Vamzoms in this world."
