Chapter 362 - 362: Into the Spooky Forest

Ningguang nodded in full agreement.

"For us, these monsters are easy to handle—we know what we're doing. But if some unknowing adventurers run into them, it could be disastrous."

"Anyway, let's go back and plan this out carefully before making a decision."

"Oh right, you just mentioned spellbooks and scrolls…"

Ryen waved his hand and smiled.

"I told you before! The spells on a staff can be replaced, but you need to find a special kind of workstation to do it.

If there are enough Druid Mages around, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Spellbooks should also be hidden inside certain chests within the Twilight Forest.

As for spell scrolls…"

Ryen paused to think for a moment before speaking softly:

"Simply put, it's sealing a spell that has already been cast into a scroll.

Even if you don't have a staff, you can still activate the scroll, and the corresponding spell will be released.

It's basically a one-time-use magic consumable—something very common in magical worlds.

Come to think of it, has no one in Teyvat ever thought of trying this?"

Lisa shook her head.

"Back when I was studying at the Akademiya, there were indeed similar speculations. But no matter how many methods we tried, all attempts ended in failure.

At its root, it was a materials issue. The resources in Teyvat seem incapable of bearing elemental magic.

Magic itself, after all, is something very subjective—almost entirely reliant on the perception of a Vision holder.

So, I eventually gave up on that line of research.

But the spell scrolls you're talking about intrigue me. If this world truly has spell scrolls, then there must exist materials capable of carrying them.

In that case, I might be able to revive my old experiments."

Keqing spoke thoughtfully:

"If we could master the technology to mass-produce spell scrolls, wouldn't that mean…

We could give any ordinary person the chance to wield elemental power? Perhaps even more than one element?"

This idea was tempting to Jean and the others as well.

But Albedo shook his head.

"It's best not to hold too much hope…

You need to understand—though we call it elemental magic, what we wield isn't truly magic.

In fact, so-called mana doesn't even exist in Teyvat.

To produce spell scrolls… the success rate would be minuscule. My teacher once attempted it, and even the entire Hexenzirkel conducted experiments—yet all ended in failure."

At these words, the group couldn't help but sigh in disappointment.

The Hexenzirkel was the most powerful, most ancient, and most learned circle of witches in all of Teyvat. Only the strongest of witches could join their ranks.

Klee's mother, Alice, was one of its elders.

Ryen had once asked Zhongli about her.

Alice's strength was tremendous—at the very least on par with a top-level Archon.

Even the weakest members of the Hexenzirkel possessed strength equivalent to the highest-level adepti.

The Hexenzirkel was the most unique faction in Teyvat. They did not participate in any of Teyvat's conflicts, and they cared nothing for even the Heavenly Principles.

And the Heavenly Principles themselves dared not touch them.

Because they were the ones who guarded the boundaries.

It was not the boundary between life and death in Teyvat.

It was the boundary of the world itself—there, it connected Teyvat to the cosmic starry sky beyond.

They bore an immense responsibility: to guard all of Teyvat from external interference.

Even if one day the Heavenly Principles went mad and sought to destroy the Seven Archons and their nations—

The Coven of Witches would still remain untouchable.

Even if her power was stronger, Celestia dared not lay a hand on them.

So, even without Ryen and the others, little Klee was absolutely safe within Teyvat.

No one dared to target Klee. After all, her mother was none other than Alice—the eccentric yet terrifying elder of the Witch's Coven.

Though Alice was often so busy that Klee rarely saw her, anyone who dared to touch her daughter would find Alice swooping in within moments, summoning her allies, and scattering their ashes to the wind.

Lisa shook her head lightly and said softly:

"We should still try. After all, the mysteries of a whole new world have appeared. There may yet be even more wondrous changes."

Albedo nodded slightly.

"That point, I do not deny…"

Ryen rolled his eyes and muttered:

"You're saying all this way too early. Crafting spell scrolls is complicated—it requires many procedures, and a lot of specialized tools.

Whether we can even find them is another matter. The most likely scenario is that we'll only come across some finished spell scrolls."

"Anyway, let's keep exploring. First, we'll unlock the treasure chest in the Spooky Forest, and then we'll go hunt down the Twilight Lich!"

Everyone nodded, packed up their things, and pressed onward into the Spooky Forest.

Compared to the slight unease they'd felt upon arriving, seeing the Druids appear the same way as before put them all at ease.

From what they could tell so far, Druids weren't many in number, but they weren't as rare as the Quest Ram that only spawned as a unique encounter.

Which meant that obtaining their own staff was only a matter of time.

And what made them even happier was this—

Within the Twilight Forest, there were spell scrolls and spellbooks!

No one could say for sure what surprises those two things might bring…
