That morning, the nameless man arrived at the seed room before the employee responsible for unlocking the cabinets.
He realized this when he found the door closed.
He stood there for a few seconds, glanced at the clock in the hallway, and confirmed that he wasn't late. In fact, he'd arrived almost fifteen minutes before the agreed time.
The woman appeared shortly afterward, carrying two small boxes.
"You're early."
"I know."
"Are you worried about missing something?"
"No."
She opened the door.
"Then why?"
The man thought about it as he followed her inside.
"I wanted to start."
The employee looked at him but didn't comment.
That morning, there was no simple counting to do. Part of the inventory had been transferred from another property, and several boxes needed to be checked before being incorporated into the main records. Some contained seeds he already recognized.
Others didn't.
He liked those more.
"What's this one?" he asked, holding a small paper envelope.
