The following day, Kael discovered that choosing a route also had consequences.
Amelia didn't arrive with a reservation.
This time, she came with a question.
"Hotel room or same-day travel?"
Kael stopped eating breakfast.
"What?"
"If you go to the exhibition," she replied, pouring herself some tea, "do you intend to travel in the morning and arrive before lunch, or would you rather leave the night before and stay overnight in the city?"
Kael stared at her for several seconds.
"You're doing this on purpose."
"Doing what?"
"Turning a maybe into logistics."
"No. I'm asking how you prefer to travel."
Sylphie spread butter on her bread without looking at either of them.
"I'd go the day before."
Kael turned toward her.
"Nobody asked."
"I know."
Seraphine also looked up from the book she was reading over breakfast.
"Me too."
Kael closed his eyes.
