Chapter 25 - Back to Base

So they are going for shared memories..

My memory regarding the forgotten shore is very cloudy, but I can safely say that the timing and most details are only similar if looked from a far away.

Essentially, these are new details to me, tch. This is just the worst.

Crossing my arms, I walked back to the corpse of the nightmare creature, ignoring Adam. I planted the sword of saba on the Nightmare Creature and sat down beside it.

Adam walked up to me, with a carefree expression as usual.

"You already experienced these, right? What do you suggest at this moment?"

Looking at me, he thought for a moment, his eyes slightly blurring as it lost focus.

"It's hard to say, all I can say is. Do what you must, follow the flow", he answered.

"That is the least helpful advice I got this entire year, why don't you just tell me what you're hiding?" I probed.

"I wish I could but your just not ready yet, and as I mentioned it's not a matter of corruption or proving worth, it's just the information is locked and can only be told to you only if you achieve what "he" wants", he explained before walking around the corpse and sitting on the other side to see horizon.

I looked a little puzzled but also shocked, from the beginning I was very sceptical of his intentions, so I assumed that he was actually malevolent and was hiding something.

To my surprise, he didn't even bother lying and told me that he did have a secret he was lying and the secret was related to me, but he couldn't tell me because it would only be allowed to be revealed at a certain time.

So from that I guessed that, it was some information that could only be revealed after a certain point in the story.

But now he tells me that it's information for me, but I have to satisfy some requirements for me to know it.

Rubbing my chin as I contemplate this, I decide to ask the obvious.

"Can you tell me what I have to achieve?"

"No not really, even to me It's elusive, if i had to make an educated guess, based on what I know about ourselves, It would…"

He paused.

"Dicerning the truth."

 …

Discerning the truth? What kind of truth?.

Questions sprang up in my head, but none of them had a viable answer.

I did have some ideas, but they are merely hypotheses so it can't be confirmed and looking at Adam who was now back to enjoying the scenery, it likely meant that he wouldn't answer any more questions.

I should keep this matter aside for now, from his reaction it doesn't seem that urgent, so I can think slowly.

Back to the matter at hand.

There are differences that I have discovered in this version of the story.

Firstly all the shard memories are accounted for except for the dawn shard.

Yes..

That means, the story that is living has changed, or is different.

Right now, the zenith shard, the starlight shard and the dusk shard are in Effie's possession.

While the midnight shard and the moonlight shard somehow is in Sunny's possession.

And the sunlight shard is in Seishan's possession.

All that leaves is the Dawn shard, which would fall in Nephis's hand, in this upcoming expedition.

This is quite uncomfortable, at this point all the shard memories except the dawn shard are accounted for, but why?

Turning to Adam, I posed another question, even though I can guess the kind of answer he will give.

"Did you mess with the shared memory locations?"

"Hm?" he turned to me with a slightly confused expression.

"All the shard memories except for the Dawn Shard are in 3 people's possession so early on in the story, are you the one responsible for this?" I pressed.

He simply closed his eyes and turned his head back straight as if bored.

"No I didn't, if i did, i would have told you, but this was news to me as well, but i am not too surprised, whatever our main body has been doing all this time, it's bound to create small changes in the overall story."

Hmm.. that is true, there is no certainty that all details will remain the same, with fate forcing the main events to go as the novel went and the unknown variables rising from my main bodies existence, this is the minimum to expect.

Instead it's more surprising that there aren't more changes.

Let's not jinx it, this works out well for me.

I looked back at Adam, I looked at him for a while. Sighing I turned to look back at the outskirt of the bright castle, I should join the meeting.

Nephis and Sunny should have met at the alley by now, sunny should be guiding Kai into the base.

Haaaaa… letting out a deep sigh.

I am getting tired.

Isekei is not fun anymore.

Getting up, I started walking back to base. Cassie will probably be hungry, she is begging me to envision some fast food, I wonder which one we should have today?

"Thinking about Cassie again?" Adam asked as he appeared beside me like a ghost.

"I was.. Before you interrupted me" I chided with narrowed eyes.

Understanding my displeasure, he increased the distance between us, hands in air, feigning innocence.

"Ok ok, jeez, i was just asking" Adam complained.

"I don't want to be asked questions, my mind is already preoccupied.."

"tch .. The old you was better." Adam grumbled under his breath.

"What was that?"

"Nothing nothing!"

Adam hurried forward, walking ahead of me.

He then asked a question without turning back.

"You have changed quite a bit, you seem more irritated than usual.."

I stared at his back then asked "mind elaborating?"

Then he stopped walking. I stopped as well as he turned to me.

"Its just that, you don't seem like yourself, like something bothering you.. As spectator i would assume that for you it would easy to keep emotions in check, but now some negative emotions are leaking out"

I simply listened.

Then without answering I walked past him.

As I did, I whispered.

"I just remembered some unpleasant memories from earth..".
