Good morning, everyone. It's me Stacey reporting for the world news broadcasting channel. We bring you live to what will be the biggest trial in the history of the world. The trial of the Cordayl, aka the Diablo."
The courtroom is filled, and everyone waits in anticipation for Cordayl to enter. The doors open, and the crowd is disappointed when they see just the judge walking in.
He scoffs at their disappointed noises and takes his seat.
A few minutes pass, but eventually, the moment everyone has been waiting for arrives. The doors burst open again and in comes Cordayl. Cameras flash nonstop as the media takes as much footage as possible of Cordayl being wheeled in.
Both his hands and feet are chained to their own heavy metal sphere.
The combined weight of all four balls is so heavy that a special device had to be created so Cordayl could be transported to the courtroom with the tiniest room for escape as possible, as each limb is strapped down to the device.
With Cordayl's mouth covered with a solid metal face mask and an armed escort of 10 soldiers, Cordayl is wheeled to a part of the courtroom made just for him during the proceedings that will drop 100ft below ground if any hostile movement is detected.
Cordayl's eyes are hidden behind his dreadlocks, and his head is down when the judge bangs his gavel, telling everyone to take their seats.
The judge begins to read Cordayl's case number and list the charges against him. When the judge asks if Cordayl has anyone to defend him, he sits there in silence.
The prosecutors smile smugly as they, along with most people in attendance, figured he wouldn't. But when the doors burst open and an out of breath attorney comes rushing up to his post, the whole crowd is shocked.
"Sorry I'm late, your honor. There was literally nowhere to park. But I am here to defend Cordayl, " the attorney states, standing tall.
The courtroom is silent in disbelief, but the judge shakes out of it first. "You want to defend him?" he asks, pointing to Cordayl. "I don't want to, but I can read off all the charges again."
"I understand, your Honor, but I am certain that I want to represent Cordayl." The lawyer affirms.
The crowd gasp in disbelief again. The judge shakes his head. "Son, normally I wouldn't argue nor ask why, but seeing how this case could result in career suicide, I gotta know why?" The judge asks.
"Well, your Honor, to put it simply, I believe that Cordayl has been falsely misrepresented in the press, which has led to a massive bias amongst the world that would rather see this man painted as a mass murderer and not a victim of self-defense." The attorney answers.
"Misrepresented? And what would make you believe such a thing amongst tons of damning evidence?" The judge asks.
"Well, your honor, Cordayl saved my life." The attorney tells him, achieving a third wave of gasps from the crowd.
"Your honor, I know what I am doing is foolish, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I sat on the couch and refused the man who gave me a second chance at life, a fighting chance in my profession. I am more than prepared for this case, your Honor, and accept all responsibility and consequences as Cordayl's defense attorney."
The crowd is silent, and all eyes are on the judge. The judge chuckles and says, "Well, as the headlines have already stated, this is the trial of the century. That would be true with or without you here, so we'll proceed as normal. Good luck to you, son. Prosecution, you're up." The judge states.
The prosecutor stands up and whispers to the defense attorney, "History only remembers the brave. Respect man."
Turning his attention to the jury, "Ladies and gentlemen of the court. Today is a day that we've never thought possible. A day we've all been praying for since the destruction of the Youtound kingdom many moons ago. A day to bring the Diablo to justice.
"My opponent will try his best to humanize this monster, but how can he? For too long, we have witnessed the path of chaos that is left wherever the Diablo has walked. The lives lost, the cities crushed, the pain and scars he has left on this world, unapologetically.
"This monster deserves no sympathy, only the crushing defeat and the clear sound of justice that will ring after I prove he doesn't deserve to see another ray of sunlight again!" The prosecutor finishes as he holds his stare before taking his seat.
The defense attorney stands next. Clearing his throat, he starts his speech. "I want to tell y'all a quick story about a man. This man went through what he thought was the worst day of his life. He finds out his wife is cheating on him with his boss. So he loses his love and his job within the same hour. Turns out the whole office knew about it, but this guy was such a loser they thought he knew about it.
"As he is driving home, the saddest and most depressing thoughts race through his mind, and he convinces himself life isn't worth living anymore. As he thinks of how to end it all once he gets home, his car dies, only making things worse.
"After smashing his head on the steering wheel, he looks up at the sky, asking his creator why him, and sees the megazoid of the -(power ranger rip-offs) falling down. With a direct path to smash him into the street. At that moment, he realizes that he isn't ready to give up. He cranks his car up repeatedly, praying that it will start up! But the engine just won't turn over.
"He curses himself right there on the spot for ever thinking about un-aliving himself and swears that if he somehow survives this, he will make it through his darkest moment and become a better version of himself. Or, at least, he will in his next life."
"Hearing the thunderous boom from the fall of the multistoried metal man, he is shocked to see that he can still open his eyes, and when he opens them fully, he sees a man staring at him, just as confused as he is.
"This man turns out to be Cordayl, who caught the mechazoid before it crushed the man flat, holding all its weight in one hand. And the man he saved was me. With a strong push, Cordayl moved my vehicle out of the way of certain death and disappeared before I could say thank you.
"But why would he wait around for that? All he's ever heard were words of hatred. He would never expect to hear ones of gratitude. But still, in a world full of hatred, he went out of his way to save an innocent man and gave him a second chance to get over the worst day of his life the right way. By fighting, and that's what I intend to do for him. Thank you." The defense finishes their opening statement.
The crowd is silent as the defense attorney retakes his seat, and the prosecutor stands to start the second round.
"Funny you mention that mechazoid in your story." The prosecutor says as a tv slides down. "You mean the mechazoid only summoned by -the protectors of the city- right? Wasn't it Cordayl that started a fight with them, beat them to a pulp, and subsequently put you in the situation you claim he saved you from?" The prosecutor asks as the video evidence plays.
The defense attorney rumbles through one of his two briefcases and throws a disk he finds on the TV.
The TV pulls in the disk magnetically and plays the footage from its files. "Yes, I am aware of the events of that day, but as the jury will see, my client was acting in self-defense." The lawyer shows footage of Cordayl walking the elderly lady home before the hero group attacked him.
"As you can see. The group attacked Cordayl first. While his back was turned, and he was escorting an elder. It was self-defense. And he protected the elder! Taking her home so that she would be safe from the aggressors." The lawyer says.
"That's fake footage!" One prosecutor shouts.
"No sir, it is not. That is footage captured from street cameras and also a remote drone. All real, showing the full story." The defense tells him.
"Well, believe me, jury, we have a mountain of evidence against Diablo that shows his misdeeds to society." The prosecution promises.
The trial continues, with the prosecution and defense arguing and debating the facts about Cordayl's escapades throughout the continent.
They argue over Cordayl's fight with Champ, resulting in psychological trauma, which ended his career. The defense contends that Cordayl was acting in self-defense of himself and a friend, showing aerial footage of Champ slapping a woman and then trying to jump Cordayl with his friends.
Yanna is in attendance and lowers her head, watching the footage.
The prosecution tries to spin more stories but to no avail. Suddenly, the defense goes on the offensive, bringing up how Cordayl rescued an endangered people from the clutches of a ruthless crime boss and how Cordayl has given back to communities, helping the retirement home from getting extorted by a local gangster.
As people are watching the trial on the screens outside, they are suddenly ushered to clear the area.
As they move in anger, they look up at the sky as a gust of wind starts batting down. They all look up and see a dragon descending upon the cleared area.
The prosecution tries to ignore all of this, reminding the jury that Cordayl is still the sole reason for the destruction of an entire kingdom.
The defense, seeing how quickly the jury remembers Cordayl's crimes, decides to bring in his first witness, Prince Naja.
The doors open wide as Prince Naja is escorted in. Everyone stands and pays their respect to the royal and sits when he takes the stand.
"Thank you for coming, Prince Naja. I'll be quick so as not to waste your time. Now, as I understand, you spent a brief time with Cordayl, correct? " the defense asks.
"That is correct. Cordayl and his good friend Esquimo assisted me before and during my bout with my now trusted dragon." Prince Naja informs them.
"Very good. And during this fight, it is said Cordayl helped you retrieve your sacred weapon, yes?"
"Yes, he did," Naja responds.
"Can you tell the jury what is so special about your weapon?" The defense asks.
"Well, it does a multitude of things, granting me strength and foresight on top of other things. The most famous of its abilities being that only I can lift it." Naja answers.
"Only you are able to lift it?" The defense questions.
"Me or someone of pure heart." Naja corrects himself.
"Okay, okay. Has my client Cordayl ever tried to wield this sacred weapon?"
"Hmm, yes, he has."
"And what happened upon him trying to wield it."
"Cordayl was able to lift the blade and return it to me." The crowd gasps as Naja reveals Cordayl's feat.
"No further questions, your Honor." Prince Naja stands to leave the courtroom, and everyone stands as well.
As he is leaving he stops by Cordayl and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Good luck, Cordayl." Then, he leaves the courtroom.
