Chapter 153 - Chapter 153: Mazikeen

Lucifer Morningstar, once the most handsome and powerful archangel in heaven, was nicknamed "The Morning Star." Where Lucifer was the brightest light among the angels, his radiance faded when he refused to bow to the Son of God. Proudly, Lucifer cast aside his glorious title.

Before turning away and stepping out of heavenly glory, Lucifer left behind words that would echo through the ages: "I would rather be a king in hell than a slave in heaven." Those words became the banner for one-third of the angels who chose to follow Lucifer's rebellion. They took up arms against heaven, but their resistance fell in the light of eternity.

In that chaos, Lucifer was cast down from the sky—falling for nine days and nine nights, traversing the corridor of emptiness, before crashing into the foundation of reality: hell. There, Lucifer reigned—not as a prisoner, but as a king. Thus goes the tale according to the holy scriptures.

However... the story of this universe is a bit different.

Lucifer remains the rebellious child, and God continues to punish Lucifer. But hell here is not merely an eternal prison. Where Lucifer is like Niflheim to Asgard: not a place of curse, but a branch office of cosmic administration. And Lucifer, instead of being cast out, is appointed as the general manager. Ironic? Very much so.

Marvel's hell is not a single, blazing red space. It is a place divided into countless dimensional shards, each with its own ruler. Lucifer is just one of them—the King of the Fallen Angels—the leader of the charred remnants of heaven.

Above those rulers, there is one title that tempts many ambitions: Satan. To be Satan means to be the emperor of hell. Many rulers have tried to claim that name for themselves. But none are bold enough to truly sit on the throne of Satan. Too many eyes are watching, too many fangs are waiting to tear.

The situation is reminiscent of the Three Kingdoms period after the fall of the Han Dynasty. Whoever declares themselves emperor first will soon become the target of a mob.

But let's return to Lucifer.

After thousands of years managing hell and tormenting sinful souls—both administratively and metaphorically—Lucifer began to grow bored. The fire king grew tired of sitting on embers. Where Lucifer then pleaded with God to restore his position. The answer? Silence. Emptiness. No approval came down.

Lucifer finally did what only an entity fed up with divine uncertainty could do: Lucifer skipped work.

Together with Mazikeen, Lucifer's loyal friend—a succubus with a dark sense of humor and a face that always seemed half-smirking—they applied to the Sorcerer Supreme and decided... to retire to Earth.

The Sorcerer Supreme, with a faint smile and intentions never fully decipherable, granted their request.

Lance heard this rumor from Wong. But aside from the Sorcerer Supreme, no one knew for sure the whereabouts of these two retired beings. Had Lance not happened to witness the incident himself, where he would never have suspected that the flamboyant man even more flirtatious than Tony Stark was the legendary Lucifer.

Lucifer raised a wine glass, slowly swirling its red liquid, as if savoring the aroma of sin. Where Lucifer smiled, revealing perfect white teeth: "Kid, did the Sorcerer Supreme send you to watch over me?"

"You're too confident," Lance shrugged lightly. "I just passed by and saw you shot. Curious. So I stayed."

"Watching what?" Lucifer scoffed. "See me punish that sinner? Ha! I've promised the Sorcerer Supreme. I won't mess around on Earth. In fact, I like it here. There's so much to enjoy... and appreciate."

Mazikeen, standing not far away, brushed her hair from her forehead and scoffed: "Lucifer has been trapped in this mortal body for too long. Where Lucifer has even forgotten how to cast spells."

Mazikeen's voice was full of sarcasm, but also... a hint of bitterness. It was as if she was witnessing her boss being eroded by time and laziness.

"What's wrong with being an ordinary human?" Lucifer smiled contentedly. "Only humans can feel... happiness."

"Wait," Mazikeen squinted, as if just realizing something. She raised her hand, finger pointing at Lucifer. "You looked different when you were with that female detective earlier."

Lucifer's smile slowly widened. This time, there was something more than just flirtation in his expression—there was admiration, even confusion.

"I can awaken the hidden sins in anyone's heart," Lucifer whispered, his voice low, "and make all women fall for me... But Chloe? No."

Lucifer chuckled softly, but his eyes were serious. "My powers don't work on her. Isn't that... amazing?"

Demons will always tempt the darkest sides of human nature, yet they are powerless against a truly pure soul.

It had been over four years since Lucifer set foot in the mortal world. During that time, only one soul had captured his attention—besides children, of course. Chloe. A pure soul walking in the darkness of the world, yet untouched by it. And for Lucifer, it was like finding a shining star in the abyss.

"..." Lance's mouth twitched, his eyes narrowing in skepticism. The cold and grand demon president fell in love? Seriously? The hellish version of the dominant man in a cheesy romance novel?

What a misfortune for the female detective.

Even so, Lance had no intention of stopping Lucifer.

The Sorcerer Supreme once said with a heavy tone that although Lucifer was the Ruler of Hell, he was also a king who kept his promises.

Where Lucifer would tempt the sinful, testing them with toxic offers. But with a pure soul, Lucifer—no matter how demonic he was—would never corrupt Chloe. Where Lucifer might try, perhaps seducing with that deadly smile, he would never impose his will.

And as long as his methods were... legitimate, Lance had no right to stop someone from pursuing love. Even if it was love from a demon.

Mazikeen scoffed, her eyes narrowing in disgust. "Other women would throw themselves at you for just one smile. But you're infatuated with a woman who wouldn't even glance your way?"

Lucifer raised an eyebrow, his face glowing like a teenager in love. "I have a feeling... this is love."
