The Mysterious Tree and the Lost Path
The slope gradually leveled out. The once-cold air was now turning warm, and the dense darkness of the jungle was fading. In front of them stood a tree unlike any other—its surroundings were bathed in a soft golden glow, as if the tree itself was radiating light.
"What could this be?" Victor muttered, eyeing the tree with suspicion.
Jon and Victor continued forward cautiously. As they approached the tree, their eyes widened in amazement. The tree stood 50 feet tall, emitting a mysterious glow. The air around it was warm—not uncomfortably so, but rather soothing, like sitting by a fire on a cold night.
"This place feels... different," Jon whispered.
Suddenly, a booming voice echoed through the silence—
"Come forth, young ones. You are welcome here."
Jon and Victor instantly tensed up, drawing their swords in alarm.
"Who's there?" Jon demanded.
The voice responded again, this time softer, almost reassuring—
"Do not fear. I mean you no harm."
Victor and Jon exchanged wary glances before stepping forward cautiously.
Then, to their utter shock, they saw something unbelievable—the trunk of the tree had a human-like face, its eyes gazing directly at them!
Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Jon asked, "Who... or what are you? And why are you here?"
The mystical entity on the tree smiled faintly and replied—
"I am an ancient tree. I was placed here to guide those who have lost their way. However, it has been many decades since anyone has come this far."
"Lost?" Victor asked, skepticism in his voice.
"How do you know we've lost our way?"
The tree's voice grew serious—
"Anyone who reaches me is uncertain of their path. Tell me, what is your journey's purpose? Are you sure you are on the right path?"
A heavy silence followed. The tree's words carried an eerie truth, as if it could peer into their very souls.
After a moment, Jon asked, "Can you tell us if we are heading in the right direction?"
The tree chuckled and said—
"That is something only you can determine. If you do not even know where you are going, how can I guide you to your destination?"
Jon and Victor looked at each other, uncertainty clouding their expressions.
Victor spoke in a low voice, "Should we trust this thing?"
Jon hesitated before whispering back, "I don't know... But if we're truly lost, we have no choice but to ask it."
The Ancient Tree's Prophecy
A deep silence filled the air. A thin mist lingered in the forest, and faint moonlight filtered through the sprawling branches, casting a dim glow. The atmosphere was eerie, broken only by the occasional rustling of leaves and the distant cry of an unseen bird.
Jon and Victor stood before a massive, mysterious tree. This was no ordinary tree—its branches seemed to carry ancient wisdom, and faint glowing patterns appeared on its bark as if inscribing a message.
Suddenly, the tree's glow intensified slightly, and a golden light emanated from its tangled roots. Then, in a deep, resonant voice, the tree spoke—
"You both can learn about your destination from me, but first, tell me—where do you wish to go?"
Jon, who had been standing alert, remained silent for a moment. He glanced at Victor before slowly replying—
"We need to reach the Gandharva Region."
The tree's roots pulsed with a soft energy, and its branches swayed slightly. After a few moments of silence, it responded—
"Then you are on the right path, but now you have two choices."
Jon furrowed his brows and muttered—
"Two choices?"
Victor leaned forward slightly and asked—
"What do you mean?"
The tree stretched its branches outward, and its voice resonated with a solemn rhythm—
"If you possess intellect and wisdom, travel northeast. There, you will find the fortress of Dark Lord Yaku. This fortress has four massive gates, and to pass through them, strength alone will not be enough—you must use your intelligence and logic. If you succeed, this fortress will lead you to the banks of the Parushani River, beyond which lies the Gandharva Region."
Victor and Jon listened intently.
After a moment of thought, Jon asked—
"Does anyone live in the fortress?"
The tree's glow dimmed slightly, and its voice grew heavier—
"No one resides in the fortress, but it is still home to dark forces. Yaku is imprisoned there, yet his presence lingers within its walls. Though the fortress appears deserted, it is not empty. If you choose this path, you must be mentally prepared."
Victor's fingers instinctively tightened around the hilt of his sword. He took a deep breath before asking—
"And the second path?"
The tree's branches swayed gently, and its deep voice echoed once more—
"If you are powerful and fearless, head northwest. This route is far more dangerous. You will face giants in the mountains, and beyond them, you will encounter ogres lurking in the dense forests. This path is meant only for those who have complete faith in their physical strength."
For a while, only the sound of rustling leaves filled the silence. The tree's words echoed in their minds.
"Both paths are perilous," Jon murmured.
Victor nodded solemnly. "We need to make a careful decision."
After a few moments of deep thought, Jon turned to the tree and asked—
"Which path do you think we should take?"
The tree's branches swayed gently, as if contemplating the question. Then, its voice emerged—
"I believe you should take the northeastern path. There, you will face fewer physical threats, and if you rely on your intelligence and patience, this route will be safer for you."
Jon and Victor exchanged glances.
"Alright," Jon nodded. "We will follow your advice and head northeast."
Victor bowed slightly toward the tree and respectfully said—
"Thank you for your guidance."
The tree's glow shimmered faintly again, as if offering a blessing.
"May your journey ahead be fortunate," the tree said.
From the Darkness of Night to a New Dawn
Jon and Victor began moving forward. The ground, which had been flat before, slowly turned into a sloping incline. The smooth terrain was now transforming into a challenging climb.
The trees in the forest grew denser, and the air turned colder. Though the night's darkness still surrounded them, the sky in the east began to lighten slightly.
After some time, as they reached a higher mountain path, the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon. The golden-orange glow of dawn pierced through the misty darkness of the forest, illuminating the land.
Jon looked up and quietly said—
"A new day is beginning."
Victor gave a faint smile and replied—
"And with it, a new challenge."
They continued forward, unaware of what awaited them within the fortress of Dark Lord Yaku…
