Chapter 10 - 10. Mission Rewards

"I lost. Morning Sun, your Pokémon is really amazing," the Bug Catcher, Cole, said, looking at his Butterfree with a hint of reluctance.

"I won by chance. By the way, Cole, what are you looking for? Do you need my help?" Eddie asked, putting aside his previous thoughts. He decided to focus on completing the mission at hand.

Hidden mission Trigger Condition 2: After defeating Bug Catcher Cole, ask if he needs help.

"I'm looking for Pokémon with more potential. Although my Butterfree and Beedrill are okay, I feel their potential is still lacking. I'm searching for Caterpie and Weedle with better potential. Can you help me find them?"

"Ding! Bug Catcher Cole asks for your help after being defeated. You have triggered a hidden mission: Find Pokémon with more potential!"

mission Content: Capture a Caterpie and a Weedle with higher potential than Bug Catcher Cole's Pokémon. Would you like to accept this mission?

"Finally, a hidden mission," Eddie thought, narrowing his eyes as he looked at Cole. Accepting this mission wasn't easy. Without the right conditions, the mission would remain inaccessible.

Hidden missions in Pokémon Generations are generally rare and difficult to find. Normal missions require players to uncover them actively.

The official description of the game emphasizes its realism. NPCs rarely ask for help unless something unexpected occurs. This highlights the value of hidden missions and the game's immersion. In reality, strangers don't usually walk up to you and ask for assistance, do they?

Eddie, however, knew the truth—this wasn't just a game. Pokémon Generations was a real world, and its residents were alive, making everything feel authentic.

"Of course. Meeting is fate; I can help you find them. Luckily, I caught a Caterpie and a Weedle with Peak potential. Do you think they'll work?" Eddie said, revealing the Pokémon he had prepared in advance for this mission.

Cole's Butterfree and Beedrill had advanced potential. Although Eddie remembered them having intermediate potential in his previous life, they seemed to have improved.

Fortunately, Eddie's encounters with wild Pokémon often resulted in catching high-potential ones. The Caterpie and Weedle he had prepared were peak potential, perfect for Cole's request.

"peak potential? Really?" Cole's eyes lit up with excitement. He carefully inspected the two Poké Balls that Eddie handed him.

"Look," Eddie said, showing the Pokédex, "These Caterpie and Weedle are listed as having peak potential. If they meet your requirements, you can have them. They're extras I caught."

"Peak potential! Thank you so much. Here, take these items as a reward. I can't just take them for free," Cole said, handing over a collection of items.

"Ding! You have completed the hidden mission: Find Pokémon with more potential!"

"Ding! Bug Catcher Cole's favorability toward you has increased. You received: 5000 Pokédollars, TM [Iron Tail], TM [Double Team], and 10 Ultra Balls as rewards."

Eddie accepted the rewards with calm satisfaction. Selling those peak Pokémon to other players might have fetched more money, but this felt more worthwhile. Hidden mission rewards often included unique items or rare opportunities that couldn't be bought with Pokédollars.

"Just as I thought," Eddie mused. "The rewards have changed. Previously, the reward was just 1000 Pokédollars and TM [Double Team]. Now there's TM [Iron Tail] and even Ultra Balls. What a win."

After Eddie put away his belongings, Bug Catcher Cole bid farewell. Cole mentioned he would head to the Viridian Forest to hone his skills once he found what he was searching for.

"Charmander, Froakie, come here! I've got something good for you," Eddie called out, gesturing for the two Pokémon to join him. He took out the TMs he had just received and prepared to use them.

"Ding! Charmander can learn [Iron Tail]. Do you want to continue using it?"

"Yes, continue using it. Don't ask me again. Use them all," Eddie replied decisively.

"Ding! Charmander has learned [Iron Tail]!"

"Ding! Charmander has learned [Double Team]!"

"Ding! Froakie has learned [Double Team]!"

Eddie put away the TMs and observed the two Pokémon in front of him. With a quick signal from his eyes, Charmander and Froakie began to test their new skills.

Charmander and Froakie exuded energy, creating three or four [Double Team] copies that surrounded them. The duplicates looked so realistic that Eddie couldn't help but smile in satisfaction.

"[Double Team] is an excellent move," Eddie thought. "It's versatile since almost any Pokémon can learn it. Plus, it's great for dodging attacks and confusing opponents."

Eddie then shifted his gaze to Charmander, who met his eyes and nodded in understanding. Charmander focused, channeling energy into his tail until it glowed brilliantly.

"Ka-ka!" Charmander dashed toward a tall tree, leaped up, and swung his tail with precision and force.

"Ka-ka-ka-ka—Bang!"

The tree cracked at the impact point, splintering until it broke cleanly in two and toppled over. Eddie observed the damage, clearly impressed.

"That's incredible, especially for just learning the move. [Iron Tail] is such a powerful skill with a base power of 100. I think it also lowers the opponent's defense. What a great addition to Charmander's repertoire."

Eddie glanced at Froakie and added, "It's a shame Froakie doesn't have a tail and can't learn this move. But I can't get greedy. We've made good progress, and there's still plenty of room for growth."

With a resolute nod, Eddie called out, "Charmander, Froakie, let's head to Viridian City. After that, we'll train in Viridian Forest. This area is no longer challenging enough for us."
