"Match rules: 6v6! Both sides can switch Pokémon at any time! The battle continues until all Pokémon on one side are unable to battle or a trainer surrenders! Now, both trainers, send out your first Pokémon!"

"Go! Weavile!"

"You're up! Xatu!"

"Wea!"

"Xaaa!"

As the referee's voice fell, Liam and Anon threw out their PokeBalls simultaneously. Two flashes of light lit up the battlefield—Weavile appeared atop a rock on Liam's side, while Xatu perched on a branch of a tall tree on Anon's side.

This was a mixed battlefield: Liam's half was a rocky terrain scattered with jagged boulders, while Anon's side was grassy and forested, with open meadows and tall trees. Such a hybrid field increased both the difficulty and excitement of the match.

"Both Pokémon are in position! Battle—begin!"

"Go, Xatu! Use Ominous Wind!"

"Xaaa!"

At Anon's command, Xatu flapped its wings powerfully, soaring straight toward Weavile. As it beat its wings, a strange, purple windstorm rushed at Weavile.

"Weavile, Icy Wind!"

Seeing Xatu's attack, Liam calmly ordered a counter.

"Wea!"

Weavile stood coolly on the rock. As the ominous wind rushed toward it, it slashed its claws sharply through the air—an icy gust burst forth and neutralized the strange wind completely.

Xatu was a Psychic/Flying-type, and from the get-go, it was heavily suppressed by Weavile's Dark-type. Most of Xatu's moves were Psychic-type, along with a few Ghost-type techniques and only a couple of Flying-type ones. So from the start, it was at a natural disadvantage.

Liam had no intention of holding back. He wanted to see how Anon would respond.

"Weavile! Sucker Punch!"

"Wea!"

Upon receiving Liam's command, Weavile pushed off the rock with its powerful legs, its sleek figure darting upward like an arrow. Enveloped in flickering dark shadows, its body vanished in midair.

"Xatu, watch out for an ambush! Get ready to Teleport!"

"Xaaa!"

Seeing Weavile disappear, Anon immediately shouted. Xatu was already covered in a layer of purplish psychic energy, waiting silently for the exact moment Weavile would strike.

"Wea!"

Just as Xatu stayed vigilant, a dark aura flared behind it, and a black energy-cloaked claw slashed out from within.

"Xaaa!"

But Xatu reacted swiftly. Just as the shadowy claw struck out, it used Teleport, its green body shimmering and vanishing instantly, leaving only a few severed feathers drifting down.

Having missed its strike, Weavile flipped through the air and landed steadily back on the ground.

"Heh, quick reflexes! Weavile! Feint Attack!"

Seeing Xatu appear near the edge of the grass field, Liam wasted no time issuing another order.

"Wea…"

Weavile glanced at Xatu and let out a low growl, then quickly darted behind a nearby boulder.

"Xatu! Use Air Slash! Destroy that rock!"

Seeing Weavile hide again, Anon yelled.

"Xaaa!"

At once, Xatu flapped its wings, launching blade-like gusts of air that struck the boulder Weavile was behind. Rocks shattered and cracked rapidly under the onslaught. With a loud crash, the battered stone exploded into fragments—but Weavile was nowhere to be seen.

"What!? Where did it go!?"

Anon was startled, realizing something was wrong. He quickly looked up and shouted,

"Xatu! Use Miracle Eye in the sky!"

"Xaaa!"

Xatu spread its banner-like wings and let out a piercing cry. Purple energy surged from its body, converging in midair to form a glowing violet eye. The eye radiated beams of light that bathed the entire battlefield.

"No way! Weavile! Take it out, now!"

Seeing Xatu use that move, Liam's expression changed. He'd forgotten about Psychic-types' trump card: Miracle Eye.

"Wea!"

Having already snuck close in the tall grass, Weavile let out a low cry, then shot out from the underbrush. Its claws glowed black as it lunged at Xatu.

"Xatu! Psychic!"

Anon had been watching closely and gave the command the moment Weavile appeared.

"Xaaa!!!"

Xatu let out a sharp screech, and a surge of purplish energy blasted forth from between its wings. Weavile saw the incoming psychic wave and snorted disdainfully. Ignoring it, it accelerated directly toward Xatu.

"Don't be reckless! Dodge it!"

Liam's face changed when he saw Weavile charging straight into the attack. He quickly shouted.

"Wea?"

Weavile hesitated at Liam's call. Though confused, it forced itself to stop mid-charge and dodged to the side.

But it was too late. The Psychic blast struck Weavile's side directly. A powerful force exploded on contact, flinging Weavile into the air. It let out a cry of pain as it crashed into the grass.

"Wea…!"

Weavile gritted its teeth and struggled to its feet. Looking back at its battered side, its eyes were full of confusion. That kind of move should've done nothing to it—why had it hurt so badly?

"Weavile! You okay?!"

Liam called out in concern.

"Wea!"

Weavile nodded in reply, eyes now deadly serious as it turned to Xatu.

"See that eye in the sky? It allows Psychic-type moves to affect you. Be careful from now on!"

Liam's tone grew more serious. He'd thought he had the upper hand, but a moment's carelessness had flipped the match. You really can't underestimate any opponent in a Pokémon battle.

"So you've figured it out, huh? Then there's no need to explain!" Anon grinned. "Xatu, Future Sight!"

"Xaaa!"

Xatu flapped its wings again. Invisible energy surged into the sky and vanished. Nothing in the air seemed to change, but Liam knew what was coming.

"Weavile! Take it out now, before the delayed attack lands!"

Liam knew the strength of Future Sight. If Xatu was knocked out before it triggered, the move would disappear.

"Wea!"

Weavile lunged forward, transforming into a blur of black light as it charged.

"Xatu! Teleport! Then use Lucky Chant!"

Anon remained calm.

"Xaaa!"

Xatu vanished and reappeared far away, then spread its wings and began to spin slowly in place. A shimmering aura surrounded it, casting faint sparkles over its body.

"Wea!"

Weavile missed again. Gritting its teeth against the pain, it turned with a glare at the meditating Xatu.

"Weavile! Quick Attack! Follow with Punishment!"

"Wea!"

In a flash, Weavile rocketed forward like lightning. It appeared in front of Xatu almost instantly, jabbing its right claw like a spear.

"Xatu! Confusion!"

"Xaaa!"

Blue light flared in Xatu's dull eyes. Right as Weavile was about to land its strike, it was halted mid-air by the psychic force. Weavile's face twisted in pain—it tried to push through, but couldn't move forward an inch.

"Xaaa!"

"Wea…!"

Weavile struggled for a moment, then was suddenly hurled away by Xatu's psychic power. It slammed into the trunk of a nearby tree, splinters flying.

"Beep! Weavile is unable to battle! Xatu wins!"

The referee immediately called the match. Weavile was embedded in the tree trunk, unconscious and clearly unable to continue.
