Chapter 624: The Ten-Tails' Second Form
Naruto was currently in a state of "This place is wonderful; who needs the village?" Inoichi tried to manifest as a passerby to tell her it was all fake, that she was an idiot who didn't know the first thing about ninjutsu. But "Naruko" gave no response.
I, Naruko Uzumaki, am a genius. I accept no criticism.
He might have known it was fake, or he might not have. He simply didn't care.
Inoichi watched helplessly as "Naruko" led a team of village shinobi to "subjugate a monster" outside the village. That "monster" was, in fact, the Nine-Tails, which had gone completely berserk.
"Naruko" claimed to be a master of all ninjutsu, but in the genjutsu, all she used were various "Rasengans" (dumplings). She beat the Nine-Tails until it howled in pain. Reflected in the outside world, this meant the Nine-Tails' chakra was completely out of control, erupting from Naruto's body in massive clumps.
"I'm sorry, Lord Hokage." Inoichi shook his head, admitting his failure.
A full minute had been wasted in an already desperate situation.
Sweat was pouring down Tsunade's forehead.
They were all looking at him. Minato was out of options. He had to try the "treating a dead horse as if it were alive" gamble.
"Alright. Inoichi, return to the Sensory Unit. Shizune, take charge of the hospital. The rest of us are taking Naruto outside the village to unseal the Nine-Tails."
He used his Flying Thunder God Technique to transport Naruto, Tsunade, Fukasaku, Shima, and Koharu Utatane far outside Konoha.
They were in the middle of nowhere, not a soul in sight.
A fatal wound is a fatal wound, but being stabbed in the heart is different from being dropped in lava.
For a normal Jinchūriki, when the seal is opened, the Tailed Beast will jump out, and the host will typically survive for a short time.
Naruto's situation was unique. He had been sealed as an infant; the Nine-Tails had grown with him. The two were too deeply intertwined. If the Nine-Tails was pulled out, it would be like pulling a radish out of the ground, taking all the soil with it. A forced extraction now would rip all of Naruto's life force out, too. The chance of him dying instantly was terrifyingly high.
They quickly assigned tasks. Tsunade and Shima would provide continuous healing. Koharu would be responsible for life support after the extraction. Minato and Fukasaku would handle the extraction and sealing.
The Nine-Tails' chakra was raging inside Naruto. His body began to convulse, his chakra network savaged by the beast's power. Bright red blood, mixed with Tailed Beast chakra, began to spray from his body like arrows.
Tsunade became a one-woman repair crew, patching up any damage as it appeared, with Shima assisting.
Minato frantically drew a new sealing array on the ground while Fukasaku nervously watched the seal on Naruto. The escaping chakra was growing stronger, staining the sky above them a deep, bloody red.
A small part of the chakra dispersed into nature, but the vast majority was flying southeast. As the chief administrator of Mount Myoboku, Fukasaku knew the situation in Kumogakure. He knew what would happen if the Ten-Tails was fully revived.
In his opinion, nothing in the shinobi world was more important than that fight. Why are we saving Naruto? The simplest solution was to kill Naruto—and the Nine-Tails with him. Force the beast into its rebirth cycle and ruin Madara's plan. But... Naruto was the Great Toad Sage's Child of Prophecy.
It was an impossible dilemma.
"Little Minato, hurry! Little Naruto can't hold on much longer!"
"Minato, faster!"
Everyone was frantic.
Minato drew the sealing array with the fastest speed of his life. "It's ready! Let's begin!"
Fukasaku immediately released the final "lock" on the Eight Trigrams Seal. In the next second, crimson chakra erupted. The sheer pressure of it blasted the group backward, forming a pillar of red light that shot straight into the heavens.
Within the pillar, the Nine-Tails' face was faintly visible.
It, too, looked confused and dizzy. It had just condensed from mist-like chakra back into its physical form when it felt a massive, irresistible pull from the distance. Its body began to fly away.
"Adamantine Sealing Chains!" Minato, having learned the Uzumaki clan's sealing jutsu from his wife, quickly formed the seals. Eight solid chakra chains shot out from the array, latching onto the Nine-Tails as it ascended.
"Minato Namikaze? What's happening? Where's Naruto? I'm out?" The Nine-Tails itself wasn't resisting, but the suction from the other end was too powerful. Even with Minato using the chains at full power, they snapped one by one, until he could only watch as the Nine-Tails was ripped away into the sky.
"HAHAHAHAHA—!" Uchiha Madara's thunderous laughter echoed across the land.
Ino was stunned. What is he laughing at?
But when she saw a massive orb of crimson chakra fly in from the far distance and merge into the Ten-Tails, she understood.
The Ten-Tails' body transformed. It rose from its previous prone position, its chest on the ground, to a standing state. It was emaciated, with disturbingly long, thin limbs.
"GRAAAAAAAH—!" The Ten-Tails shrieked. Even with its power suppressed by the Gracious Deity Gates, its roar warped the very heavens. Incalculable chakra flooded the landscape. The sky filled with black clouds, the earth shook violently, and trees toppled in entire swathes. Spiderweb cracks tore the ground apart. The ruins of Kumogakure and the bodies of its dead fell into the chasms as magma erupted from below. It was a vision of the apocalypse.
Madara, who had been holding back against his brother, showed no such mercy to the Fourth Raikage. He kicked the powerhouse away and bellowed with laughter.
As its summoner, Madara could read some of the Ten-Tails' thoughts. He looked at Ino, his face a mask of arrogance. "This is the Ten-Tails' 'Cataclysm'! It likes you. It wants to devour you and make you its nutrient! Hahaha! But... you're lucky. You get to live a little while longer!"
The Ten-Tails could only evolve into the complete God Tree by devouring an Ōtsutsuki. In the past, it had only consumed half of Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, so it was incomplete. Now, it had set its sights on Ino. In its eyes, she was close enough. Devouring her would complete its missing half.
But it was too early for that. It needed to reabsorb the rest of its own power first.
With the Yang-Nine-Tils absorbed, its power reached a new height. It was now only missing one piece: the Seven-Tails.
The Seven-Tails wasn't a particularly strong beast. Using the natural attraction between Tailed Beast chakra, the Ten-Tails could already pinpoint its Jinchūriki's general location.
The Ten-Tails had entered its second form. Its struggles became unbelievably powerful. The torii gates from "Sage Art: Gracious Deity Gates" shattered one after another. The sealing jutsu had reached its limit. With one final, terrifying roar, the Ten-Tails broke free.
Uchiha Madara immediately canceled the summoning, sending the Ten-Tails back to its hidden base. He then launched himself into the sky, using the Rinnegan's repulsive force to accelerate, and flew toward the location of the Seven-Tails Jinchūriki: Iwagakure.
