Elisa turned to Cael, her eyes burning. Her heart felt like it had dropped straight to the bottom of her stomach. The room around her fell into a dull hum, the voices, the walls, everything fading behind the throbbing ache rising in her chest.
"...the night we spent together a few weeks ago…"
It could be any week; maybe she had meant 'few' as an under-exaggeration. A few weeks could mean months ago… probably even before she joined the pack. Right?
But then she saw the flicker of guilt when Cael's eyes flickered to hers, then to Cassandra standing beside her.
"No…no way. He wouldn't… Right?" Elisa whispered to herself.
Cael's eyes snap to hers, his werewolf hearing picking up her whispered words. All Elisa could see shining out of those beautiful grey eyes she loved so much was guilt.
Even if they had just hung out that night, there was no need for the level of guilt in his eyes.
