The conference room is silent.
I lean back in my chair, studying the man across from me. Commander Isaac Goodman.
He is not what I expected... physically.
He is not handsome. Not in the way that main characters usually are. His face is average—the kind of face you would see at a gas station or walking down the street. He looks like just every other guy.
Everything else though like the scar on his cheek—a jagged line that runs from his temple to his jaw. Or the buzz cut that screams military discipline.
Military man through and through. I do not like these types. I have never been able to get along with male authority figures, especially the military ones.
"Well," I say, leaning back into my chair. "It is an honor to finally meet humanity's hope."
"Likewise, Chairman Han." His voice is flat in way that is neither respectful nor subservient.
"Well, enough with the pleasantries. Let us get to business."
