Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: The Stubborn Farfetch’d

What kind of place did Gym Leaders use to train their Pokémon (Beast)? Gabriel was curious to find out.

Under Everette's guidance, Gabriel and his group arrived at an empty house.

There was nothing inside?

Gabriel looked around in confusion. It was indeed an empty room. Was there something unusual about it?

Everette didn't keep him in suspense. He immediately called out his Vespiquen and led Gabrielto an adjacent control room for a demonstration.

"Don't underestimate this training room. It contains over a thousand hidden mechanisms. Each mechanism launches projectiles, making it an excellent tool for honing a Beast (Pokémon) evasion skills."

With that, Everette pressed a button. A small opening appeared in the training room's wall, and a rubber ball shot out towards Vespiquen. However, Vespiquen dodged it effortlessly.

Then, multiple openings appeared, firing a barrage of rubber balls from all directions.

"The training room randomly launches rubber balls from different spots. Getting hit doesn't cause much damage, but the monitoring system records each hit and calculates a score at the end of the session."

Gsbriel watched the monitor in shock. The rubber balls bounced unpredictably around the training room, yet Vespiquen avoided every single one with ease. Not a single hit landed on the airborne Pokémon.

So this was the strength of a Gym Leader!

"Of course, Vespiquen is handling the highest difficulty setting. She's already mastered this training, so it doesn't help her improve anymore. But for your magical Beast (Pokémon), it should still be quite effective."

"It's Pokémon, not magical beasts."

Everette scratched his head awkwardly. Kids always came up with the strangest terms.

The demonstration ended, and as expected, Vespiquen completed the session without a single hit. Just as Everette had said, this training was no longer challenging for her.

"Well? Want to give your "Pokémon" a try?"

Gabriel decided to let Dratini go first. He wanted to see how his Dratini would perform.

A few minutes later, Dratini emerged from the training room, covered in bruises. Gabriel stared at the score on the monitor, his blood pressure rising.

Dratini had failed to dodge a single ball.

Although the rubber balls weren't particularly strong, they had still left Dratini yelping in pain. In the end, Dratini had curled up in a corner, trying to minimize the number of hits he took.

"Little mu, you can't keep slacking like this!"

Gabriel sighed in frustration. His Dratini had completely turned into a useless Pokémon!

"Mu!" (But it really hurts!)

Dratini looked at Gabriel pitifully. Though Gabriel felt bad seeing his Pokémon in pain, he knew he had to be strict if Dratini was going to improve.

"No excuses. You need training. If you don't train, I'll cut your daily Pokéblocks in half!"

Even Vespiquen, who was standing nearby, was startled. Half the Pokéblocks?! She got one per day—half meant only half a block!

Q-Q!!! (How cruel!)

Dratini also looked at Gabriel in shock.

"Mu~" (Gabriel, you've changed! You don't love me anymore!)

"Pouting won't work. Train or no Pokéblocks!"

"Mu mu!" (I'll train!)

Everette awkwardly recalled his Vespiquen. His own Beast (Pokémon) had clearly been traumatized by hunger before—just the mention of Beast Blocks (Pokéblocks) had made her lose all composure.

How embarrassing!

After Dratini's disastrous attempt, it was Farfetch'd's turn. Gabriel didn't have high expectations for Kaká. As a Farfetch'd, endurance was his biggest weakness. Even if he managed to dodge a few balls, he would eventually tire out.

"Kaká, if you feel like you can't continue, let me know. I'll stop the training immediately."

No matter what, Gabriel never wanted his Pokémon to push themselves to the point of injury. Training was important, but keeping them healthy was the priority.

Kaká nodded and stepped into the training room. The moment Everette pressed the button, rubber balls shot toward the duck.

Kaká dodged the first ball with a swift sidestep. Gabriel watched in mild surprise from the control room.

Not bad. But this was just the beginning.

More rubber balls followed, but Kaká continued to evade them, unhurried and precise.

As expected from a Pokémon that had escaped from a restaurant—his dodging skills were practically instinctive. However, dodging was one thing. The real challenge was sustaining it.

Despite his small size, Kaká expertly maneuvered around the rubber balls. If he couldn't dodge, he used his leek to deflect the shots. Surprisingly, even though he was weaker than Dratini, he lasted much longer.

Dratini, watching from the side, grew restless. This was making him look bad!

No way! How could he let Kaká outshine him? He was Gabriel's most treasured Pokémon!

Staring at the screen, dratini made up his mind—he would surpass Kaká no matter what.

Meanwhile, inside the training room, Kaká was starting to struggle. Continuous dodging had drained his stamina, and he was forced to block more and more shots with his leek. His once-fluid movements were becoming sluggish.

Eventually, the rubber balls' frequency increased, as did their speed. One by one, they started landing on Kaká's body. He collapsed onto the ground, only for more rubber balls to pelt him relentlessly.

Watching from the control room, Gabriel's heart clenched. Kaká didn't have the endurance Dratini had. As a Dratini, Little Mu naturally had higher durability, and the rubber balls only left him sore. But Kaká had taken far too many hits. He was genuinely hurt.

"We need to stop the training! Kaká's too injured!"

But Everette didn't press the button immediately. Instead, he watched the monitor with a serious expression.

Gabriel turned back to the screen—only to see Kaká struggling to his feet.

Despite the constant barrage, despite his injuries, Kaká refused to give up. He kept swinging his leek, striking back at the rubber balls with unwavering determination.

No matter how much pain he endured, Kaká kept fighting.

"This Beats …" Everette murmured. "One day, he's going to be strong. Just look at his determination."
