Chapter 06: Pokémon Potentials

Looking at the information displayed of the Machoke in front of him, especially the information on Potential, Julian was pleasantly surprised.

If Pokémon's growth speed was related to a Trainer's breeding method, then its growth limit was related to its Potential.

Just like humans, some exceptional individuals sometimes emerged, and these individuals were often able to achieve things in certain aspects that most people could not achieve in their lifetimes.

The same was true for Pokémon. An extremely good Potential Pokémon might become an Elite or even a Champion if it was properly raised, but if it was just a Pokémon with ordinary Potential, even if you spent a lot of resources, it might not be able to make it to a pseudo-Elite.

Pokémon's Potentials were divided into eight types: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple and Gold.

Corresponding respectively: Rookie (Red 0-20), Ordinary (Orange 21-40), Advanced (Yellow 41-60), pseudo-Elite (Green 61-70), Elite (Cyan 71-80), Pseudo-Champion (Blue 81-90), Champion (Purple 91-99), First-class Legendary (gold above 100).

Most of the Pokémon in the wild were among the three kinds of Red, Orange and Yellow, and a few outstanding ones were Green, while Cyan could be said to be one in a million.

For Pokémon living in Secret Realms and Ruins, the Pokémon potentials in the Beginner Secret Realms were similar to those in the wild, while the Intermediate and Advanced Secret Realms were higher, especially in the Advanced Secret Realms, which were rich in energy, so the potentials of Pokémon there were generally Yellow and above.

A Pokémon with Cyan-grade potential and proper breeding method could often become an Elite, but such Pokémon were basically unavailable to ordinary people.

In the outside world, some top breeding companies would occasionally sell them, and their value was more than 100 million. After all, the Cyan Potential represented that you had the ticket to an Elite of the future.

Such Pokémon were relatively rare even in aristocratic families.

And most ordinary people were lucky enough to even have a Green-grade Pokémon.

The Potential of a Pokémon could be checked with a Potential detector machine.

The technology of the Potential detector was found by Drakoria in a Ruin with a high degree of danger 30 years ago. The expedition team even brought out a complete Potential detector, but the price they paid was extremely high.

Two pseudo-Champions, ten Elites, and dozens of pseudo-Elites died.

In it they met Entei, Suicune, and Raikou, the three Legendaries.

If it wasn't for the team leader at that time possessing a Champion-level Pokémon, none of the expedition team of more than 300 people would have survived.

And that team leader had now become the president of the Drakorian Trainer Association, one of the five Champion trainers in Drakoria today, and the strongest one.

Although the price was heavy, it was well worth it.

With the Potential detector, you could check the potentials of Pokémon, and low-grade potential Pokémon no longer needed to be raised, which could save a lot of resources. Investing these resources into a high-grade potential Pokémon would be more cost effective.

While this was unfair to low-grade potential Pokémon, it couldn't be helped.

No matter how good a Trainer was, if a Pokémon's potential was low, he could not become strong.

The appearance of this Potential detector also gave Drakoria a monopoly in this regard, because after the expedition team came out, the Ruins disappeared because of its unstable space.

Most of the Pokémon inside died because of this, and a few escaped to the outside world, including the three legendary Pokémon.

So far, there had not been a Potential detector in any other Ruin, and only Drakoria had the manufacturing process and core technology in this regard.

The importance of Potential detectors to a country was self-evident.

At present, the most important means of strength in each country were Trainers, not the previous guns.

Therefore, it was very important to have a Potential detector that could detect whether the potential of Pokémon was good, and whether it could become an Elite or even a Champion in the future.

Before the Potential detector appeared, there were too many trainers who poured resources in low-grade Pokémon, resulting in their level still being unable to rise. Finally, they found out that the potential of this Pokémon was not good—and had nowhere to cry.

Therefore, relying on this monopolized technology alone, and constantly exchanging some other technologies with various countries, as well as the entry tickets to Advanced-level Secret Realm or Top-tier Secret Realm, and the exchange of Pokémon unique to each country, Drakoria had vaguely become the world's largest country.

The Machoke in front of Julian had Yellow Potential, which meant that its maximum growth limit was the peak of the Advanced-level.

As for treasures that could improve a Pokémon's potential, they were worth more than a pseudo-Elite Pokémon.

Yellow potential was also the potential of most mainstream Pokémon in this world.

Julian then looked at the other Machoke.

---

Pokémon: Machoke (Fighting)

Level: 31

Potential: Yellow

Ability: Guts

Held Item: none

Gender: Male

Moves: Leer, Low Kick, Focus Energy, Revenge, Low Sweep, Knock Off, Scary Face, Vital Throw

TMs: Mega Kick, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch

Egg Moves: none

---

These Machoke were both Yellow potential, and their moves were similar. Only a few Pokémon's Potential exceeded the Yellow-grade and reached the level of Green or Cyan.

"Is something wrong with these two Machoke?"

A staff member of the Lake City Trainer Association saw Julian staring straight at the two Machoke, making them feel a bit awkward.

"Oh, nothing, I just think that these two Machoke have been raised very well," Julian said.

In all fairness, although they had Yellow potential, they were indeed well trained, and the combination of moves was also in line with the characteristics of a Fighting-type Pokémon.

"Thanks for the compliment."

These two Machoke had cost him more than 20 million in resources and money, and the TMs alone had cost him nearly 10 million.

A Thunder Punch TM alone went for half a million.

He was just an ordinary staff member of the Trainer's Association. And although Julian expected him to have a Green-grade Pokémon, the reality was cruel.

Though even if he had a Green-grade Pokémon in front of him, he currently didn't have the resources to train it. The two Machoke alone had almost consumed all his energy and financial resources.

Later, he planned to go to a Beginner-level Secret Realm to see if he could find something good, and buy a Held Item for Machoke.
