H'El's expression hardened looking between Superman and Batman, his voice dropping to a whisper edged with cold wrath.

"Then let us speak in the only language this world seems to understand."

Energy flared around him, red lightning crackling against the walls.

Superman squared his shoulders.

Batman shifted his stance, cape falling still behind him.

H'El floated an inch off the ground, aura rippling with unstable energy, shards of crystal orbiting him like a storm held barely in check.

And then a sound.

Low at first, like a tremor in the very air, followed by a flash of violet light that cut through the crystalline gloom.

A rift opened near them. From it stepped Arthur Blackwynd, cloak brushing the frost, followed by Kara, her boots cracking the thin layer of ice beneath. They weren't flying, not yet. They walked calm, slowly, each step echoing through the chamber.

Arthur's eyes swept over the scene Superman, Batman and H'El.

His voice broke the silence like steel drawn from its sheath.

"Well," he said with dry amusement, "what is this supposed to be? Some kind of standoff? Or did we walk into a family reunion?"

Kara, ever the spark of light amid the chaos, tilted her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

"It sure looks like it," she said softly, though her tone carried a quiet readiness, a heat beneath her calm.

Superman turned and for the first time in what felt like hours, something human flickered across his face.

Shock first. Then relief.

"Kara…" His voice was low, hoarse from the earlier battle.

She smiled back, eyes softening despite the tension. "You didn't really think we'd let you face him alone, did you?"

For a heartbeat, the world felt still. The Fortress lights dimmed and flared, almost like it, too, was listening.

Clark's gaze moved from Kara to Arthur. The corners of his mouth lifted a faint but genuine smile, one of gratitude.

"Thanks for keeping your word," he said quietly.

Arthur nodded once.

"Don't mention it," he replied, stepping forward, hands in his pockets, his presence like a shadow that bent the air around it. "Just one more promise to fulfill."

H'El's head turned slightly, his expression full of annoyance. The crystals orbiting him stuttered in their motion, as if sensing his sudden interest.

His tone was low, almost reverent.

"The one who killed General Zod…"

Arthur's gaze met his, calm but sharp as a blade. "That depends," he said. "Do you plan to join him?"

The words hung between them like thunder before the strike.

H'El's eyes glowed brighter, anger building up.

"Kara Zor-El. Kal-El. And now two earthlings," he said, voice laced with disdain and disbelief. "You believe this will change the outcome?"

Batman stepped forward, cloak rippling. "You'd be surprised how often it does," he said flatly.

H'El ignored him, gaze fixed on Superman.

"No matter how many of you gather, my duty will be fulfilled. Krypton will rise again, even if it means your world burns to make it happen."

Arthur's cloak stirred, his violet aura crushing the air.

He took another step forward, now standing between H'El and the others.

The air crackled, two forces of impossible will staring one another down.

Superman's jaw tightened.

Kara's fists clenched.

Batman's hand drifted toward his belt, ready but waiting.

And Arthur

Arthur simply smiled.

"Brilliant," he said quietly, "So we don't have to waste time talking."

The Fortress shook with the first step Arthur took forward. Kara felt it before it happened, that sudden drop in pressure, that sense that something terrifyingly alive had been unleashed.

H'El's expression curved into a mocking half-smile. "So you mean to stand against me too, shadow-bearer?"

Arthur didn't answer. He just moved.

The world blurred.

In an instant, he was gone, a ripple of air trailing behind him, the ice exploding under his takeoff.

Before H'El could blink, Arthur was already there, fist cocked back, the Doomsday bone gauntlet humming with violent life. He slammed his punch straight into H'El's chest.

The impact was cataclysmic.

A sonic boom tore through the Fortress, hurling shards of crystal across the chamber. H'El's body was sent crashing through three crystalline pillars before he steadied himself midair, energy rippling from the wound, his eyes wide in disbelief.

Arthur landed in a crouch, frost cracking beneath his boots, steam rising from his shoulders.

He lifted his gaze, calm but lethal. "Try to live up to your name."

Before H'El could respond, a shadow fell over the floor a massive, hulking silhouette stepping out of the darkness behind Arthur. The ground shuddered beneath its weight.

Doom.

The monstrous shadow of Doomsday let out a soundless snarl, violet eyes blazing. Then, with a motion that split the air, Doom lunged.

He slammed into H'El mid-recovery, fists crashing like meteors against energy shields, cracking them apart. Each strike made the Fortress quake.

Superman flinched at the sheer force. Even he, born of Krypton, forged by the sun, hadn't seen anyone human move or hit like that with no restraint.

"Arthur!" he started, trying to warn him, "you don't understand what he..."

But then, something else struck him.

A voice. Calm. Controlled. Inside his head.

"I know what he can do."

Superman froze mid-sentence, eyes widening. The voice was unmistakably Arthur's not spoken aloud, but projected directly into his mind. The connection felt precise, as if Arthur had chosen to let him hear it.

Superman said nothing after that.

He just watched, hovering in the air.

Arthur blurred again, flickering through the air beside Doom. Every time H'El's energy pulsed outward, Arthur deflected it with the Ruler's authority, redirecting bursts of heat vision and gravitational waves. His movements were brutal but calculated, an apex predator measuring every angle possible.

Batman stayed motionless away from the battle. His gloved hand brushed against something hidden in his utility belt, small, cold and golden, His mind worked through contingencies, outcomes, probabilities.

Then another voice.

Right inside his head.

"Bruce. I don't know why you're here after the talk we had…"

Batman's eyes narrowed beneath the cowl.

"…but don't try anything stupid. I said I'll take care of H'El and the Kryptonians...my way."

A pause.

Then only the faintest twitch in Batman's jaw. He said nothing, but his grip on his belt loosened. The analytical silence in his mind gave way to reluctant trust or perhaps the recognition that Arthur was already too far gone into the fight to change the outcome.

H'El roared, unleashing a concussive blast that shattered the ceiling above, letting a blizzard spill through the open wound of the Fortress. Ice and snow spiraled into the chamber, swirling like ghosts.

Arthur and Doom tanked the blast, skidding backward and that's when Kara joined the fray.

She rocketed forward, golden hair whipping through the storm, eyes igniting. Every opening Arthur created, she took. When H'El staggered from one of Arthur's blows, Kara's heat vision speared into his flank, driving him sideways. When Doom hurled him across the chamber, Kara met him midair with a fist that cratered the wall behind him.

For a moment, it was almost beautiful.

Three fighters one born of shadow, one of Krypton, one who commands the nightmares moving as if they had fought together for years.

Arthur dodged H'El's fist of condensed energy, twisted, then launched a counter-blow that met his fist head on. Kara's fist followed, slamming into his ribs. Doom's hand came down like judgment, pounding him back into the ice.

Superman hovered above it all, cape whipping in the icy wind. His face stunned.

Arthur didn't just fight.

He was enjoying it despite the stakes.

Superman let out a slow breath, the tension in his chest easing slightly. For the first time, perhaps, he realized what kind of ally he was standing beside.

And Arthur's eyes violet and sharp flicked towards Kara's briefly, then turned back to H'El, his voice low, almost casual but his gauntlet already flaring with energy.

"C'mon H'El show me what you can actually do, since I know what you are."
