"Yes. I always knew you were special; I just didn't know you were the chosen one. I only found out years later, when Jessica told me."
Astrid stood up and walked over to my father, giving him a big hug. "Thank you."
"Is that why you accepted her into your medical program?" Kael asked.
"No. I accepted her because she earned her place. She was more than qualified. I still hope to see her finish the program someday."
"I'd like that too," Kael agreed, sharing a knowing look with Astrid.
"Getting Astrid away from you and your pack was just a bonus," my father added.
For a few moments, no one spoke.
Then finally, Charlotte broke the silence. "So… back to Evelyn and Andrew," she said cautiously.
I rubbed the back of my neck. What I was about to say could definitely get me into trouble with Charlotte and everyone else in the room but I had to say it anyway.
