Chapter 194 - 9.3

Fu Ling's hand grazed the cold metal frame of the doorway as the automatic lock slid back into place behind him.

The hall outside was dimly lit, the kind of place that always smelled faintly of rust, damp concrete and mold despite the endless repairs.

Pipes crawled along the walls like veins and the faint sound of dripping water sounded. There were wet patches on the floor from where the water hit. Above, flickering lights buzzed weakly, fighting against the dark although it wasn't of much use.

There were occasional bursts of hot air from the vents overhead that reminded him of the suffocating streets outside. The neon light that filtered in from narrow cracks in the wall pulsed faintly, painting the hall in streaks of pink and blue.
