Ton ton ton!
The Sparkling Juice had a complex and subtle taste, mainly sweet and spicy—thanks to the high sweetness of the Roseli Berry with a trace of bitterness, combined with the Miziberry's intense spiciness and a slight astringency.
The Pokémon joyfully drank the mysterious juice!
Their growth rate had greatly improved!
In the games, this type of sparkling juice is sold at a juice shop located on Autumnal Avenue in Lumiose City, Kalos—but this particular blend had to be custom-made.
"If you eat Roseli Berries regularly, it might boost your resistance to Fairy-types. Fairy is strong against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark types... Lilligant and Walking Wake would be at a disadvantage against them, so you'd better eat more Roseli Berries in the future."
"Roo?" Walking Wake didn't really grasp the concept of the Fairy-type. However, recalling its era, it did remember a fearsome Pokémon that it struggled to fight—something...
Walking Wake growled lowly as it tried to describe that Pokémon's appearance. Hikaru, reading its emotions, formed a guess.
Still, there was an easier way.
"Let me read your memories."
Hikaru gently placed a hand on the crystal embedded in Walking Wake's body. A soft blue glow emanated from it as ancient memories emerged before Hikaru's eyes.
Memory Reading Ability—Activated.
A lush, primeval forest, towering trees wrapped in thick moss, and countless unknown ancient fruits growing wildly. In these ancient woods, many ferocious predators lurked.
It had been an ambush.
Walking Wake had been hunting another ancient Pokémon. Predation did exist among Pokémon—rarely depicted in modern times, but common in the ancient wilds.
Even though berries could feed all Pokémon, the food chain still existed among them.
A dark, winged Pokémon hovered in midair, its gaze playful and condescending as it stared down Walking Wake. Without sunlight in the night sky, Paradox activation couldn't trigger.
But that Pokémon could still see clearly in the dark. The two had clashed while pursuing the same prey. As moonlight gathered overhead, a beam of Moonblast formed above her, revealing her true appearance.
Long body fur, a crimson Fear Orb hanging from her neck, and scarlet eyes. She looked like a massive, ancient variant of Mismagius.
"Of course... Flutter Mane."
Flutter Mane, known as the ancient Mismagius, actually had no relation to Mismagius—its lineage tied instead to Aerodactyl. Said to be the soul of a winged beast, it was a rare Ghost/Fairy-type with an incredibly aggressive nature.
"That's definitely a Fairy of ancient times... And wow, that Flutter Mane was massive. Then you fought her in a reckless brawl, which ended with..."
CRACK!
A massive bolt of lightning tore through the sky. In the memory, Hikaru saw a thunderous Pokémon—resembling a thunder dragon—arriving and causing both Walking Wake and Flutter Mane to retreat.
"Roo~" Walking Wake's cry broke Hikaru from the vision.
Failed hunts weren't uncommon. No need to worry!
There were still ancient Pecha Berries to snack on—the primeval forest was abundant with resources!
Sometimes, brutal fights over territory broke out among wild Pokémon—fights that were chaotic and pointless.
"Though ancient times were supposedly all about survival of the fittest, with so many berries around, it feels more like they were fighting out of boredom."
Some ancient berries would even grow in response to a Pokémon's strength.
In the anime, Fennel once restored an Archeops—and accidentally brought back ancient berries with it. These berries would grow rapidly in response to Archeops' cries, even bearing fruit in seconds.
"Rooah~"
After eating and drinking their fill, drowsiness followed. Walking Wake sprawled on the floor, mumbling and blinking drowsily.
Maybe it had slept too long in the Entralink Forest—it now mastered the divine art of dozing off instantly, on par with Ash's Rowlet.
Wake me when it's dinnertime!
"Grot..."
Torterra, however, was eyeing the sleepy Walking Wake. From earlier, it could sense an ancient power emanating from Walking Wake—power that was awakening its own EX Force.
Ever since gaining this EX Force, Torterra had been pondering.
This power enhanced life force and moves, greatly boosting health and power—and buffing various moves.
Which meant... if one's vitality was raised to an extremely high level, then—
"Grot-tah! (Wait, don't sleep yet—I have a question!)"
Torterra's call roused Walking Wake, who stared blankly at the team's chef.
When Torterra asked about the primal wild energy flowing through Wake, it blinked—and then...
Sunny Day!
"WAAHH!"
"Doree~!"
"Me-la!"
Casting Sunny Day indoors was like throwing a flashbang! Each Pokémon reacted differently to the sudden sunlight.
Lilligant was delighted—being a Grass-type, sunlight helped her grow. Larvesta, a Fire-type, was naturally fond of sun-drenched weather. Although tempted to change the weather itself, Larvesta wisely stayed in the background, muttering to itself while enjoying the warmth.
Riolu, however, wasn't thrilled.
The little blue pup panted, feeling the rising heat, ears drooping. It quickly dashed over to Aegislash, using its massive shield as shade.
"Hey, no weather indoors! Wait—are you showing Torterra something?"
"Hmm, is it... an Ability?"
Hikaru heard Walking Wake's low growl—and thanks to the sunny weather, its Ability had activated!
Protosynthesis!
In harsh sunlight or while holding Booster Energy, the Pokémon's highest non-HP stat increases by 30%. If that stat is Speed, it increases by 50% instead!
The raw, ancient force!
Through environmental changes like weather, this power could be strategically activated for surprise advantages.
Torterra nodded vigorously. Its own EX-Time Force was surging. Since it had awakened that power at night, it hadn't felt much—but now under the sun, it resonated intensely.
This was it!
Green energy began to swirl around Torterra's massive body. Plants stretched, new leaves sprouted, and its shell's color grew deeper!
Ancient EX power enhanced Torterra's vitality. In sunlight, it transformed—unlocking its Ability Overgrow actively under sun!
"Roo?!" Walking Wake's sleep vanished instantly. It stared at Torterra in disbelief.
Of all the Pokémon, Walking Wake, Torterra, and Lilligant were the most familiar with each other, but—
Wait a second... you've got Protosynthesis too!?
Are we... hometown buddies!?
"Grot-tah! (Not really, but thanks!)"
Torterra figured out the trick—it was all about Sunny Day. Hikaru and the rest watched curiously at the transformation.
Though each had gained different powers—some from space, others from the past, dreams, or Aura—the way these powers were used came down to how the Pokémon chose to grow.
Aegislash was the first to cheer.
"Oh! That's our Torterra! Back in Nimbasa, when you sparred with Regirock, you showed brilliance second only to me!"
"With Trainer's help, I refined Sacred Sword into three techniques, turned Psycho Cut into a sharp psychic web, and made Shadow Sneak totally ruthless."
"Now you're blazing the same trail I did? Splendid!"
"Hm, Overgrow during sunlight... makes sense. The sun nourishes plants, after all. With ancient power, you can maintain peak performance under sunny weather."
"And Lilligant too—her Ability is Hustle, which makes moves inaccurate, but thanks to her sculpting work improving her aim, she stays at her best."
"There are tons of ideas worth exploring in Abilities and moves. I remember..."
Hikaru suddenly recalled Diamond from the Pokémon Adventures manga.
That brilliant boy had created a unique version of Razor Leaf called "My Very Own Razor Leaf." Through training, his Torterra learned to control the number of leaves fired—eventually launching only one leaf at high speed to counter fast opponents!
A move specifically developed to defeat Speed-based enemies!
"And maybe... with further strength or special training, it might even be possible to retain two Abilities at once."
Like Calyrex, for example!
When riding its steeds, Calyrex shows two Abilities simultaneously!
Hikaru's suggestion thrilled the Pokémon. They swarmed Torterra and Aegislash, seeking advice to develop new tricks. Even the guest Pokémon—Sawsbuck and Haxorus—joined in.
Deoxys:
If you acquire certain precious items linked to your type, it may enhance your Ability even further. I've heard museum curators talk about this in dreams—they seemed like highly respected Trainers with deep research on Abilities.
Deoxys had knowledge spanning dreams, museums, Professor Juniper's research, and cosmic origin.
Hikaru nodded. "That reminds me of a special Chimchar—its Blaze Ability was much stronger than average. You can strengthen Abilities through intense training, external blessings, and your bond with your Trainer."
Entei:
"Interesting... maybe even my Ability could—"
Phantom Entei's Ability was unknown. Likely because its creator, Mii, wasn't too familiar with Entei, so she'd imagined it as having a "?" trait.
In reality, Entei had two known Abilities—Pressure and Inner Focus.
But the legendary beasts were once rumored to have unused Dream Abilities—Entei's was supposedly Flash Fire!
"Here, wanna try this?"
Hikaru opened a box and pulled out a piece of scorching Charcoal using gloves.
"Remember? I gave one to the real Entei—and also to that ancient Blaze Incarnate."
"This is that Charcoal. It boosts the power of Fire-type moves."
Phantom Entei gripped the Charcoal in its jaws, and fiery power surged within it!
This dream-born Entei now awakened its Dream Ability—Flash Fire!
"Larvesta, use 'Ember' on Entei."
Excited, Larvesta was ready to unleash full flames—until Hikaru stopped it.
"Don't go all out—just a spark."
"Me-la..." Larvesta looked disappointed. This house wasn't as sturdy as the Ancient Castle.
Fwoosh! An ember launched at Entei—but was absorbed instantly!
"Aha! So your new Ability is Flash Fire!"
Not Pressure or Inner Focus—definitely not canon Entei.
"Congrats! Flash Fire lets you absorb Fire moves and power up your own. Plus, in the wild, it can lure Fire-types!"
Excitement about Abilities and moves continued growing. The Pokémon eagerly shared their thoughts and dreams—turning fantasies into concrete plans.
Though still mid-journey, they'd eventually settle down—and put their ideas into action. For now, battles along the way were the perfect testing ground.
They even began discussing Hikaru's psychic abilities—after all, psychic power was a kind of move too!
"You have Psyshock?" Entei asked curiously.
"Yeah, learned it back at the Ancient Castle. But it's weak—not good for battle. Better used for sneak-attacking other Trainers."
"Hah, fair enough. If Pokémon fight Pokémon, then Trainers should fight Trainers too. Still, I won't let Mii battle. If her opponent tries anything, I'll KO the Trainer first."
"That's one way to do it... In those situations, we're not talking official League rules anyway."
Hikaru continued chatting with Entei about Psyshock—and before he realized, he'd completely joined the Pokémon's passionate strategy session.
"Wait—it's that late already? Time to cook dinner!"
Their hotel wasn't far from Join Avenue Market, so Hikaru took Aegislash, Riolu, and Lilligant shopping for ingredients. Upon returning, it was time to cook—and of course—
"Rotom, time to transform into an oven!"
"Hehe... nuh-uh!"
Rotom had assumed it was playtime, but at the word "oven," it froze—memories of junk appliances resurfacing. It trembled mid-air, resisting.
But Hikaru pulled out a brand-new imported oven.
"This one's from Join Avenue Market—not one of those defective R9 models. I double-checked the quality!"
Team Galactic did sell real appliances—those defective ones were probably experimental junk dumped by Cyrus. Later batches were much better—though pricier.
Poor quality control was a common market issue.
"Wrrr?"
Rotom cautiously scanned the oven—then zipped inside. It transformed into Heat Rotom without discomfort, happily floating mid-air.
This new body felt great!
Hikaru began baking—freshly-made treats soon filled the air with heavenly aroma!
These were based on techniques learned from the chef Patrat at the Striaton Restaurant and inspired by dishes from Pokémon Sleep and Pokémon Café ReMix.
