The tactical command of Flit and Argreus not only amazed the Federal Army but also shocked the VEGAN forces.
X-Rounders held a high status within VEGAN, often regarded as divine messengers, and their abilities were seen as god-given powers. In their minds, X-Rounder units were invincible, with no one able to stop them unless they were also X-Rounders.
The [Celestial Being] squadron, as the intelligence in the VEGAN military went, was composed entirely of top-tier X-Rounders, which explained their seemingly impossible strength and combat records.
But now… their myth had been shattered. These were mere mortals like themselves, yet they had managed to render the X-Rounder units immobile through tactical command alone.
"Incredible! The [Devil Man] unit has been completely blocked! What kind of person is the enemy's commander?" Medel Sant exclaimed in shock. He knew more than the average soldier. While he didn't believe X-Rounder abilities were divine gifts, he couldn't deny their formidable power.
They weren't invincible, but they were certainly capable of achieving significant results. Yet, they had been pushed back almost immediately, which shook his worldview.
"Flit Asuno, the Federal Army's commander, is also deeply versed in technical theories. According to our intelligence, he is the most outstanding student personally trained by Yang Hui. And like Yang Hui, he is a father of the Gundam," Jehart recalled in a low voice.
If Yang Hui was VEGAN's greatest enemy, then Flit was the second most significant threat, surpassing even Graham and Yurin.
"What a tough opponent," Medel Sant muttered, cursing fate for giving the Earth Federal Army two such formidable figures.
It was because of Yang Hui and Flit that the Federal Army could resist VEGAN's advances and even gradually catch up.
"I'm going out…"
"Commander! The Federal Reaper has joined the battle!"
"What!?" Jehart, who was about to sortie, turned sharply, his expression tense. "The exact positions of the three Reapers!"
"Yes! The [Battle Angel] has intercepted the retreating [Devil Man] unit and has already engaged! The [Judgment Angel] is rapidly moving toward the [Devil Man] second unit! The [Moon Angel] is heading toward the enemy's main forces… Frontline units have been attacked by the [Moon Angel]! Heavy losses!"
"Pull up the visuals!"
The bridge crew hurriedly brought up the visuals of the three [Celestial Being] units. Everyone gasped at the first sight.
"How is this possible!?"
"Monsters… they're monsters…"
The visuals showed the Flag Gundam already engaged with the [Devil Man] unit. Although it appeared that the [Devil Man] unit had the Flag Gundam surrounded, it was clear to any observer that the Flag Gundam was holding its own against eight enemies, even gaining the upper hand. The Dawn Gundam, though not yet in contact with the [Devil Man] second unit, was moving at an incredible speed, making even Jehart break into a cold sweat. At such speed, it was still landing every shot, steadily tearing through VEGAN's defenses.
But what truly alarmed them was the [Moon Angel], Yurin.
The Luna Gundam, accompanied by its Funnels, continuously fired, creating an unending fireworks display ahead. More terrifyingly, Yurin's actions had suddenly boosted the Federal Army's morale, which had been waning, and they managed to push back the line that VEGAN had painstakingly advanced.
"I'm going out. I leave the command to you."
Normally, Medel Sant would try to dissuade Jehart even if he knew it was futile. But under the current circumstances, if Jehart didn't go out to contain the three Gundams of the [Celestial Being] squadron, the entire front would collapse.
"Leave it to me."
Jehart headed to the Hangar, where Doll Frost and the other two members of his personal guard were already suited up and waiting.
"Commander Jehart."
"You know the situation. Follow me out."
"Commander Jehart, are we facing the Reapers?" Doll Frost asked. He and his team were proud, but not arrogant. They didn't think they would lose to Yang Hui and the others, but they also knew better than to underestimate them.
"No, our target is only one—the [Moon Angel], Yurin."
"The [Moon Angel]!"
The three were momentarily stunned, but after glancing at the battle data, they quickly understood Jehart's plan.
The [Celestial Being] squadron was "invincible." Countless attempts to ambush or encircle them had taught VEGAN this lesson. To eliminate this thorn in their side, the only way was…
To defeat them one by one. This was the unanimous conclusion of VEGAN's higher-ups.
Until now, the [Celestial Being] squadron had always operated together, leaving no opportunity to catch any of them alone.
But now… was the perfect chance!
Although the [Celestial Being] squadron was still on a joint mission, the battlefield was vast, and the three Gundams had already lost their connection and coordination. Moreover, the Flag Gundam and Dawn Gundam were engaged with VEGAN's proud X-Rounder units. Killing Yang Hui and Graham might be impossible, but keeping them occupied was certainly doable.
As long as they could buy enough time, Jehart and his three guards would have the chance to kill Yurin, successfully breaking the [Celestial Being] squadron's iron triangle.
As for why they targeted Yurin instead of joining a [Devil Man] unit to kill Yang Hui, who posed the greatest threat to VEGAN, or Graham, the most aggressive fighter, it was because, based on all the data they had collected, Yurin's performance was the weakest among the three. Yurin excelled in long-range sniping, always staying in the rear to support Yang Hui and Graham with her terrifying sniping skills, but she hadn't demonstrated excellence in other areas.
Thus, Jehart judged that if they could close the distance to the Luna Gundam quickly and force it into close combat, they would have a good chance of killing Yurin.
"Right, stay close. This is our best chance to break the Federal Army's undefeated myth."
"Yes!" x3
"Jehart Galette, [Jedra], launching!"
A red flash shot out from the warship, accompanied by three subordinates, streaking like meteors toward the front lines.
…
"Hmm?" Yurin, who had been sweeping through the enemy, suddenly paused. Her X-Rounder ability was giving her a strange sensation. "Something's coming… this feeling, it's hostility!"
Sure enough, the battle data showed four enemy units rapidly approaching from the rear. Based on their trajectory, their target was…
"Coming for me? Three times the speed… is it that kid, Jehart?"
Setting aside their opposing sides, Yurin had a favorable impression of Jehart—steady, intelligent, mature, and polite. Though still somewhat naive and not entirely self-aware, he was an outstanding young man overall, and a good friend of Asemu's.
Yurin had even privately lamented that if not for the war, perhaps Jehart wouldn't have to fight Asemu.
But there was no "if." Reality was cruel, just like now.
The [Jedra] and three [Jedas M] had entered the Luna Gundam's effective firing range. Guided by instinct and perception, the Funnels and long-range sniper rifle had already locked onto the three units.
"What a pity."
With those words, Yurin pulled the trigger. A beam shot out, slicing across the battlefield, heading straight for the [Jedra] and the three [Jedas M].
…
Jehart and Doll's group, who had just reached the front lines, received an alarm from their X-Rounder abilities.
"What's this!?"
"Beep beep beep…"
"Scatter!"
Thanks to the early warning, the four units either dodged or defended, managing to survive the Luna Gundam's welcoming gift.
"How is this possible!? At this distance!" Doll Frost and the others were stunned. The distance exceeded 1,000 kilometers. Many warship cannons couldn't maintain accuracy at such a range, yet an MS had done it?
"This is the [Moon Angel]… what terrifying sniping ability…"
"Here it comes again! Evasive maneuvers!"
Jehart's warning snapped the three out of their daze. Looking up, they saw another wave of beams heading their way. At this distance, dodging was impossible. The three [Jedas M] raised their arms to shield their heads, blocking the deadly beams.
No sooner had one wave passed than another followed. The beam rain was like an unending sea, wave after wave crashing toward them.
"Commander Jehart!"
"Stay calm, maintain formation, alternate defense. Once we close in, we'll have our chance!"
"Understood!" x3
The four units' advance slowed from a 100-meter sprint to an elderly stroll, as if shackled, making every step agonizing. With their high-level X-Rounder abilities, one or two long-range shots weren't a threat.
But the Luna Gundam felt as if it were right beside them, firing point-blank. One shot followed another, each narrowly dodged, and each aimed directly at the cockpit with no mercy.
Logically, such precise long-range sniping should consume far more stamina and focus than dodging or defending. Yet Yurin seemed tireless, her attacks as fierce and unrelenting as a storm, with no drop in efficiency or accuracy.
In contrast, Jehart and his team, though barely catching sight of their target, were already exhausted and disheveled.
Fortunately, through their persistence, the Luna Gundam finally came into view, and the distance had now left Yurin's optimal comfort zone.
"Ms. Yurin…" Looking at the Luna Gundam not far away, Jehart's eyes behind his mask flickered with complex emotions. "…You are a respectable person. But sadly, this is the battlefield. For the sake of my ideals, please leave the stage here!"
With those words, the [Jedra], under the cover of the three [Jedas M], closed in on the Luna Gundam. Jehart pushed the control stick forward, stomped the pedal, and with a burst of intense tail flames, accelerated toward the Luna Gundam. The [Jedra]'s blade gleamed with a devouring light.
"Got you!"
In just a second or two, the [Jedra] was right in front of the Luna Gundam. The blade was raised high, ready to deliver the victorious strike.
The Luna Gundam dropped its long-range sniper rifle, drawing a Beam Saber to clash with the [Jedra]'s blade. The immense force sent the Luna Gundam flipping backward.
The [Jedra] pressed its advantage, continuing the pursuit, but alarms blared in Jehart's mind.
Looking up, he saw the Luna Gundam had already re-aimed its long-range sniper rifle at the [Jedra].
"When did it… argh!"
Feeling death's call, Jehart's survival instinct took over, and he instinctively yanked the control stick. The beam that should have pierced the cockpit grazed the [Jedra]'s cheek instead.
"That was close! But now…"
"Not paying attention to your back can be fatal, you know." At that moment, Yurin's gentle reminder came through the public channel.
"What…"
"Commander Jehart! Watch out!"
Heeding the warning, the [Jedra] turned its head just in time to see the supposedly misse
d beam returning from another direction. The pink deadly light filled the entire screen.
