What had happened in the outside world was something neither Nick nor Silvanus could know. They were not in any hurry to set out and simply stayed where they were. Silvanus began seriously flipping through Lichian's thick notebook, its pages dense, the writing inside tangled together like a mass of entwined vines. Nick could not help but think to himself that it was truly a waste for Lichina to have such a beautiful face when her handwriting looked like it had been scratched out by a cat.
He continued walking forward and soon discovered that if he kept going, he would only grow farther and farther away from Silvanus, yet he would not move any closer to the center of the pillar of light either.
No matter how far it supposedly was, he should at least have been able to sense some change in the surrounding space. In the end, he could only turn back and did not dare go too far, afraid of losing Silvanus.
