Chapter 244: Payback
"Did you see that? The old man burned the trolls!" Sirius exclaimed.
"Shh! Someone is coming upstairs." Bella dragged Sirius away from the stairs, and they hid inside a nearby room.
"Don't make any noise… let's try to see how many there are," she whispered.
By the sounds of the steps resounding on the wooden floor, it was easy to tell that there weren't too many.
Bella lay on the floor and watched from the space beneath the door. She spotted two sets of legs walking by.
One of them stopped in front of the door leading to the bedroom where Bella and Sirius were hiding.
"The rats must be hiding in one of these," Lucius said.
Walburga turned to look at him. "Be careful. We don't know wh—"
"Hmph! I don't need you to tell me. I've done this before, remember?" Lucius had a cruel smirk as he made her recall the attack on her family...the one that ended with her husband dead and herself locked away in Azkaban.
In the past, Walburga would never have tolerated a young boy speaking to her in such a disrespectful manner, but her position in the group was near the bottom at this point.
Pollux wasted no time removing her name from the family, so even if everyone else died, she would have nothing to inherit. Right now, she was no longer a Black...and thus held little value for the Dark Lord.
Swallowing her pride, she controlled her anger towards Lucius before answering. "Just… stand back." She held her wand and aimed it at the door. "I'm going to break it apart."
"No, I'll do it," Lucius said with eagerness while standing right in front of the door. "I'm going t—"
He didn't get to finish his sentence, because the door flew off its hinges as if a powerful force had pushed it, and then hit Lucius, who had been standing between the door and the back of the hallway.
The blonde boy grunted in pain as his body was crushed by the heavy wooden door, breaking his white mask and a few of his ribs in the process.
"Lucius!" Walburga panicked, as she was supposed to be protecting this boy. If something happened to him, she would be the one to pay the price.
Her eyes shifted to the room, as she could finally see who the attackers were.
"It's you two…" She had been expecting to find Cygnus, or maybe even Druella, but instead, she saw her own son and niece.
Still, Walburga did not hesitate to fire a curse at them. "Crucio!" She aimed at her niece first, since she knew she was the most dangerous one.
"Ahhh!" Bella screamed after receiving the brunt of the unforgivable curse on her body. Despite her training with James, she was not used to a real fight, and this made her freeze for a second...enough time to get hit.
Luckily, Sirius jumped immediately to her aid. "Expelliarmus!"
This time, it was Walburga who let out a painful cry as she fell back, losing her wand in the process.
The woman tumbled across the floor of the hallway but was able to regain her balance, and after spotting her wand, she went for it.
"Stop!" Sirius rushed after her.
Meanwhile, Lucius got from behind the door. "That bloody hurt…" He was holding his bleeding nose with his left hand while still keeping his wand in the right.
His blue eyes shifted to Bella, whose body was still trembling due to the effects of the Cruciatus.
"You are going to pay for this…" Lucius's anger skyrocketed when he realized that the one who hurt him was none other than Bella Black. "This is all your fault… and Potter's. You are both going to suffer today."
Bella was trying to move, but every second, it felt like she was being stabbed by a thousand burning needles all across her body. She needed a bit of time to recover.
But then she heard James's voice inside her mind. 'You think Malfoy is going to give you time for that? Move already!'
"I finally get to try this on someone… I'm glad it was you." Lucius gave her a cruel smirk. "Avada Ked—"
Rage filled Bella's mind and pushed away the pain. Her wand was still being firmly gripped in her hand, as she never let it go, even after being under the effects of the Crucio.
From a kneeling position, she made a cutting motion with her wand. No words were spoken, but she had poured as much of her magic and anger as she could into that spell.
Her wand responded to her and manifested a powerful cutting charm that went through Lucius's shoulder, severing his entire right arm in the process and leaving a large gash on the wall behind.
Lucius never got to finish his spell, as the flow of magic to his wand was interrupted. The light-green spark fizzled from his wand as it fell to the floor, along with the hand that had been holding it.
"Wha… w—" Lucius was in shock. His brain was still unable to process what had happened, and the pain was yet to be felt.
However, Bella knew that she could not stop now. If she did, the adrenaline would pass, and her pain would return.
Gritting her teeth, she stood up.
"Wait… you can't…" Lucius tried to back away from her, but his back was already pressing against the damaged wall.
The wood creaked and bent under the weight.
Bella was looking at him with cold eyes. There was no compassion there for Lucius to find. "This is for Narcissa… you bastard!"
She jabbed her wand in his direction and focused all her magic and accumulated rage.
Her violet eyes shone with unrestrained power as she unleashed everything onto Lucius.
He only had time to feel an immense pressure hitting his chest, and a moment later, his body broke through the already weakened wall and went flying high into the air, falling to his death not long after.
Bella took a second to enjoy the view with a faint smile on her face before turning her attention to her cousin.
Sirius was kneeling next to his mother after successfully restraining her with a set of conjured ropes.
