Chapter 538 - Chapter 538: On Your Left

Thanos descended slowly as his warship's teleportation field faded.

Helmet.

Armor.

Massive double-edged blade in hand.

His heart was in turmoil.

Joy.

And rage.

Joy, because in the future, he had finally fulfilled his long-cherished wish-gathering all six Infinity Stones and erasing half of all life, restoring what he believed to be balance to the universe.

Rage, because he realized he had made a mistake.

He had underestimated the survivors.

He had never considered how much pain and despair he would leave behind. Enough that those who remained would claw at reality itself, trying to undo everything he had done.

In Thanos's eyes, these people were unwilling to accept defeat.

So this time, he decided to go further.

If they could not understand the mercy he had given them, then they did not deserve the future he had left behind.

"We meet again."

Thanos scanned the Avengers as he walked forward, his steps heavy and deliberate.

"I once believed that by eliminating half of life, the other half would flourish." His voice was calm. "But you've shown me that this is impossible."

No one spoke.

The Avengers stood tense, fully aware of what stood before them.

Noah, Thor, and Loki remained at the rear.

This was their first-or perhaps second-time facing Thanos.

"As long as someone remembers what once was," Thanos continued, ignoring them, his presence steadily rising, "they will reject the future. They will resist."

"Yes," Tony said at last, meeting his gaze.

"We are that stubborn."

Thanos laughed softly.

And his aura became suffocating.

"I'm grateful," he said. "Because now, I understand what must be done."

He paused.

"This time, I will crush the entire universe. Reduce it to atoms."

The pressure intensified.

"And then," Thanos said, power surging around him, "using the Infinity Stones you gathered for me, I will create a new universe. A grateful universe. One that knows nothing of what it lost-only what it has been given."

The Avengers tensed.

They had heard this before.

Last night.

When Thanos repeated those words now, they weren't shocked.

They were simply reminded of how terrifying that sorcerer named Noah truly was.

"Ha," Tony scoffed, stealing Steve's line without shame.

"A universe born ignorant, soaked in blood? What are you supposed to be-some savior? A god of creation?"

"Neither," Thanos replied evenly.

"Yet both."

"And how would they ever know what they once were?"

The moment his words fell, Thanos's power peaked.

The Avengers attacked.

Without hesitation.

Thanos laughed and swung his double-edged blade.

The clash erupted instantly.

The difference was obvious.

Except for Thor, who managed to hold Thanos's attention, every other attack barely mattered.

"As expected," Noah observed quietly. "A tenth-tier body isn't something numbers can solve. And this time, he's wearing armor."

One by one, the Avengers fell.

Tony was punched straight through his armor and sent unconscious.

Fat Thor was kicked into the ground and didn't get back up.

Banner.

Ant-Man.

War Machine.

Rocket.

One hit each.

Only Captain America remained standing.

As for the Kamar-Taj sorcerers?

Noah had already sensed the energy transmissions.

They were gathering everyone.

"Looks like it's our turn," Noah said lightly, glancing at Thor and Loki.

"Isn't that why we're here?" Thor grinned, eager.

"Don't celebrate yet," Loki said flatly. "Did you miss how badly your counterpart just got beaten?"

"It's fine," Noah chuckled. "And don't forget-I'm also from Kamar-Taj."

He glanced forward.

"The main force is already coming. You saw what happens next, didn't you? And we still have the Infinity Stones."

Loki fell silent.

He remembered.

Even if they did nothing, this battle would still be won.

But doing nothing wasn't why they came.

More importantly, they still held their trump card.

The Infinity Stones.

This universe relied on bodies and armor for defense.

Their universe relied on energy control.

That difference mattered.

Thanos mocked Captain America again as his army began descending from the warship.

Noah knew it was time.

Earlier, he had been deliberately mischievous.

When he released the Avengers, he hadn't released himself-or the Thor brothers.

To Thanos, they didn't exist.

Yet.

A faint golden light spread around Noah.

Space blurred.

Steve Rogers struggled to stand.

Every movement felt like his body was tearing itself apart.

Still, he rose.

He knew reinforcements were coming.

And even if they weren't-

He would not stop.

Facing the endless alien army, Steve tightened the straps on his shield and walked forward.

No hope.

No illusions.

Just resolve.

"Looks like you're having a rough time."

A familiar voice spoke beside him.

Steve let out a bitter laugh.

Rough time?

Half the Avengers had been wiped out by one man.

Space fractured like shattered glass.

Three figures appeared beside him.

Thanos froze.

He studied them.

"Thor. Loki."

Then he looked at Noah.

"Parallel universe," Thanos said slowly. "Then who are you?"

"Me?" Noah glanced around.

"Call me a passerby. Or someone here to cause trouble."

"Oh?" Thanos smiled. "From what era?"

"Roughly 2016," Noah replied casually, golden light spreading across his body.

"Unfortunately for you, in our universe, you never got your moment."

Thanos didn't react.

He already knew better than to approach Earth in earlier eras.

The Ancient One existed.

Odin existed.

"In that case," Thanos said, raising his blade, "shall we continue?"

"I'm done playing."

He pointed his weapon forward.

The army charged.

Noah smiled.

Sorcerers of this universe might falter under sheer numbers.

But Noah wasn't from this universe.

His universe had mutated.

And he had broken it.

Spatial mastery.

Elemental supremacy.

For him-

Numbers meant nothing.

Golden light flared.

Black runes spiraled.

Thor lifted Stormbreaker, lightning filling his eyes.

Loki was surrounded by cutting cold, blue light flickering.

From afar, Thanos's expression finally changed.

These beings didn't wield power like his universe did.

Especially Loki.

Especially that sorcerer.

Thor was familiar.

Stronger. More controlled.

But still Thor.

Loki wasn't.

In Thanos's memory, Loki was weak.

When had he gained Frost Giant power?

And the sorcerer...

Thanos felt it.

Something dark.

Something terrifying.

Something watching.

For the first time, Thanos felt danger.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Confident still, Thanos advanced-ordering his army to avoid Noah entirely.

They surged toward Thor and Loki instead.

The battlefield quieted.

Thanos stopped before Noah.

"Who are you?" he asked again.

"Kamar-Taj," Noah replied. "From our universe."

"The Ancient One's disciple?" Thanos frowned.

"A guardian of a parallel universe?"

"That's right," Noah nodded.

"I haven't officially taken office yet, but it's close."

He smiled faintly.

"I brought the Time Stone."

"And incidentally-"

"Incidentally?"

"I'm here to complete some tasks my master assigned me."

The battlefield went silent.

The resurrected warriors finally understood.

A Sorcerer Supreme.

From another universe.

Even the sorcerers of this world instinctively turned toward their own Sorcerer Supreme.

Then back.

Only Strange looked lost.

Because for the first time-

This battle was no longer under his control.

"I never foresaw this," Strange murmured.

"A Sorcerer Supreme... from a parallel universe."
