Chapter 234 - Chapter 233: Magic Homework

After leaving the second battleship at the Demon Group, Kino arrived at the New York Sanctum and knocked on the door.

"Master, I'm here to return the gemstone," he said.

Creak—The door opened.

Mordo stood behind it with a calm expression, handing Kino a note.

"Demon King, this was left for you by the teacher."

"Keep it with you for now. If possible, do not use the Time Stone to peer into the future."

"And don't intentionally seek out the Power Stone in this universe—it will come to you when the time is right."

Kino looked a little puzzled.

Did the master see something using the Time Stone?

Don't look into the future.Don't go searching for stones.

"Did the master say anything else?" Kino asked Mordo.

"No, but the teacher also left this for you."

Mordo stepped aside and brought out a book that was half a man's height, handing it to Kino.

"What kind of magic book is this?" Kino asked curiously as he opened it.

"Several methods of combining space and time magic for teleportation."

"A discussion on the energy sources and protective mechanisms of magical shields."

"Constructing complex environments within the Mirror Dimension."

Kino's eye twitched.

Magic homework?

"Did you give me the wrong thing?" he asked.

Mordo shook his head. "No mistake. The teacher personally gave it to me and said—no matter how much you write—submit it a month from now."

"…"

Kino snapped the book shut with a pa.

"What if I don't do it?"

"The master didn't say you had to complete it. You can submit it now if you like," Mordo replied, holding out his hand.

"…I never said I wouldn't do it."

Kino wasn't a child—he understood this was good for him. Besides, all the writing inside the book was handwritten.

He walked away, frustrated.

He came to return the gemstone. But he ended up with homework.

Once Kino left, Mordo shut the door, drew a circle with his hand, and entered a quaint room.

"Teacher, Mr. Kino has left," Mordo said respectfully to a golden-haired woman in a white dress.

"What was his reaction?"

"He was a bit reluctant, but still took the book. Are we being too hard on him…?"

She chuckled. "This isn't too hard. By his logic, this is essential life learning."

"You've worked hard recently—here, take this."

A silver Sling Ring floated over to Mordo.

"Teacher, what is this?" he asked, noting the black patterns on it.

"I used all those metals to craft Sling Rings. Try it out. Dismissed."

"Yes, teacher."

Mordo put it on and drew a half-circle—instantly, a portal appeared.

It was extremely stable, and the casting speed had improved dramatically.

He stared at the ring in shock.

Kino returned to his villa, speechless as he looked at the homework.

There was so much of it.

He didn't want to do it… but now that it was here…

There was only one thing to do.

"Venom, are you there? I want to cosplay."

[Hmm? Cosplay? Sure. Who this time? Yukino or Yukari Yakumo?]Venom's groggy voice echoed in his mind—sounded like he'd just woken up.

"This time I want to cosplay Kino. Help me with my homework."

[Homework? What kind of pl—Nope. Screw that. Do it yourself.]

Venom took one look at the magic homework and understood everything.

"No way. Just looking at this is giving me anxiety. There's so much of it, I'd die from exhaustion," he grumbled.

Kino stayed quiet.

Venom sighed, pulled himself out of Kino's body, and picked up the book to flip through it.

Good lord. The book had spatial expansion enchantments on it.

It looked only three fingers thick, but it had tens of thousands of pages.

No wonder Kino looked so miserable.

"Why'd you take it, then? Should've refused."

"Sorry, but the master's helped me a lot. Always turning a blind eye to my actions, even trusted me with the Time Stone. Plus, doing this homework will help me deepen my understanding of magic. There's only upside."

Kino could use his Speed Force to finish the entire thing in a few minutes.

But to him, those minutes would feel like years.

Venom understood—he just didn't want to write it alone and needed to vent a little.

"Alright. I'll keep you company," Venom said.

He sat across from Kino and morphed his clothes, figure, and hairstyle to resemble Yukino.

With a cold stare, he said, "Does this give you a little motivation?"

"Yes. Thanks, Venom."

Kino hugged him and nuzzled his shoulder.

Then he sat down, fired up and ready to work.

His fingers became a blur on the pages.

Venom casually took out a magic book and started reading too, though his eyes occasionally drifted toward Kino.

From a scared, sleepless child…

To a Demon King who could shake the world.

It felt like ages had passed.

But it had only been a little over a year.

He'd changed, yes—but deep down, Kino was still that boy afraid of being alone.

After the battle in New York, many things changed.

First, public perception of mutants drastically improved.

Many mutants even gained fans—if someone insulted them, their fans would jump to defend them.

Some mutants entered the film industry.

Especially Bobby, who got entangled with a mother and daughter duo.

Even Magneto, once infamous, earned some goodwill after building homes for New Yorkers for free.

The media constantly covered the war: the mutants' efforts, the Demon Group's heroic last stand, and more.

Many mutants applied to join the Demon Group.

The biggest reason?

World leaders now knew of the alien threat.

Earth needed mutant power—and the more, the better.

Everything seemed to be heading in a positive direction.

The land beneath the crashed ship, once left in ruins, had been purchased by the Demon Group. A military facility now surrounded it, patrolled daily by soldiers.

Still, thrill-seekers occasionally tried to sneak in and steal something.

There was even a protest.

They claimed the ship was the property of all humanity and shouldn't be monopolized by a single country—or a Demon King. They demanded global access.

Unfortunately, their convictions didn't hold up against bullets.

2,421 people died that day.638 were injured.

After that, no one said a word.

Even the hyena-like journalists went quiet, as if they'd all gone blind.

Yet, the Demon King never reappeared.

Rumors spread that he had died from his wounds.

But according to an unnamed trash collector, hundreds of empty potion bottles showed up daily in the Demon Group's garbage—labeled "Limb Regeneration Elixir."

From that, the outside world deduced:

The Demon King wasn't dead—just severely injured, surviving on potions.

Under the surface, the world stirred.

But no one dared make a move.

Not yet.

Soon, two factions formed within the Demon Group.

The New King Faction, led by Tom.The Demon King Loyalists, led by Frank.

They went to war.

Some doubted its authenticity.

But the mangled corpses and severed heads proved otherwise.

Many now eyed the group like hungry wolves.

If the Demon King was truly out of commission…

Then this massive treasure trove—the Demon Group—was up for grabs.
