No matter how strong Edmund's desire was to fulfill his wife's request, he somehow managed to hold firm to his decision and not waver, even when Primrose often teased him.
"If we do it now, you'll fall asleep, and I can't leave you alone like that, my wife," Edmund said softly. "I really need to be back in an hour."
The way he spoke was so gentle that Primrose never thought for a second he saw her as a burden. He was simply expressing genuine concern for her and their baby.
"Then … tonight?" Primrose stopped moving on his lap and looked into his eyes. "How about tonight? Do you want it?"
Edmund swallowed hard. His desire was piling up, pushing him to the edge, making him want to tear his wife's dress off right then and there. For a moment, he even thought of abandoning the soldiers, but thankfully, a bit of logic still kept him grounded.
