If Freed had to choose one word to describe his current situation, it would definitely be...
Horror.
Swoosh!
He ducked as Adam aimed for his neck, a blade of light passing just above his head and taking a few stray strands of hair with it.
If he had known he was coming to a ritual just to be hunted down by a lunatic, he would have stayed in his apartment, lying on his couch, stuffing himself with junk food while paying some hooker to keep him entertained.
Instead, here he was, hopping around like a damned rabbit trying to escape a starving fox.
Freed knew when he was at a disadvantage, when he had no chance of winning, and when there was no escape.
His breathing became ragged.
His vision darted around the room.
Every exit suddenly seemed impossibly far away.
Unfortunately for him, this was undeniably the third option.
Swoosh!
After narrowly avoiding another slash that threatened to split him in half, he immediately turned and sprinted toward the basement stairs.
But just as he was about to reach them, a blade of light shot toward him like a spear and pierced straight through his hand.
"Shit!" Freed choked out as the blade buried itself into the wall, pinning his palm in place.
Blood trickled down as the sharp pain of flesh being pierced and burned forced him to grit his teeth.
"Hey, hey, wait! We can talk about this!"
He glanced over his shoulder and saw Adam calmly walking toward him.
Fear tightened in his chest. His heart pounded as he turned and desperately tried to pull the blade free.
"I can be useful! How about I swear loyalty to you too?! I've got plenty of skills! I can be just as useful as those two bitches!"
"..."
Adam paused.
Seeing that, Freed almost smiled, hope flickering across his face as he wondered if Adam was actually considering it.
!
Then, completely crushing that hope, a second blade of light materialized in Adam's hand.
"Shit!"
He pulled at the blade with every ounce of strength he had.
Negotiation clearly wasn't an option.
"Raynare, you bitch! You're really going to kneel that easily?! I thought you were some kind of badass, empowered Fallen Angel or something!"
He snarled, glaring at Raynare.
Despite being just as defeated as he was, she unexpectedly...
Smirked.
Unlike Freed, she had been given a second chance to live.
Freed clearly hadn't.
His insults meant nothing to her anymore.
The moment Freed saw that smile, a vein bulged on his forehead.
That bitch! I swear I'm going to kill her!
He snorted in pure frustration before giving one final yank, ripping the blade out of the wall.
His eyes lit up with relief.
He never had the chance to enjoy it.
Spinning around, he swung the blade of light directly at Adam's head.
"Die!"
But the instant the blade touched Adam's face, it dissolved into thousands of glowing particles.
Leaving Freed frozen in place, staring at him with a clenched fist and a completely deranged expression.
"..."
The two stared at each other for several long seconds.
Freed blinked rapidly while Adam simply looked back with one eyebrow raised, as if silently asking what he planned to try next.
"That was embarrassing, wasn't it?"
Freed grinned and stuck out his tongue.
"Think fast!"
In one swift, desperate motion, he pulled out a flash bomb and prepared to throw it.
Swoosh!
Before he could even complete the movement, a flash of light sliced clean through his elbow.
His severed hand, still clutching the flash bomb, fell to the floor in front of him.
Silence filled the room.
Then blood erupted from the stump.
Freed roared in agony, the veins in his eyes turning crimson as his gaze frantically shifted between his wound and Adam.
"My arm! YOU CUT OFF MY FUCKING ARM!"
He gasped between breaths, desperately trying to stop the bleeding.
"I'LL KILL YOU! YOU'RE A DEAD MAN..."
!
He never got to finish his sentence.
Because his head was severed from his shoulders.
Bam!
It hit the floor with a dull thud, his face forever frozen in the fury and terror of his final moments.
Adam watched the scene for a moment before dismissing the blade in his hand with a shrug.
He had killed far too many people to be deeply affected anymore, especially someone like Freed, whose every other word was either a lie or a mockery.
Truthfully, Adam hadn't been particularly eager to kill him.
His original plan had been to take an arm or a leg and humiliate him.
But even while begging to swear loyalty, Adam could practically sense the deception and betrayal hidden behind every word.
Freed was not the kind of man who would ever truly submit.
Leaving him alive would only create a dangerous loose end, one that would almost certainly try to strike at Adam by targeting the people he cared about whenever he wasn't around.
Adam hated loose ends like that.
Loose ends he could control, however...
His gaze shifted toward Mittelt and Raynare.
Those, he could tolerate.
. . .
Back at Adam's house, Asia quietly hummed to herself while cooking.
A cookbook lay open on the kitchen counter, turned to a page titled Carrot Cake.
As she mixed the batter with complete concentration, her focused eyes and the tip of her tongue peeking out made her look exactly like an adorable, hardworking wife.
Once the batter was perfectly mixed, she poured it into a prepared baking pan and placed it in the oven, carefully setting the temperature according to the recipe.
"I hope it turns out well!"
She wiped the sweat from her forehead with a proud little smile.
"Adam-sama is definitely going to love it!"
She paused, her eyes drifting toward the ceiling as she disappeared into a daydream.
Adam taking a bite of her cake.
His eyes lighting up with happiness before pulling her into a warm embrace and showering her with affection for the rest of the evening.
"Asia! Your cake is amazing! Let's get married and have five children!"
She clasped her hands together as if praying for the scene to come true, giggling happily while completely lost in her fantasy.
Click!
The sound of the front door opening instantly brought her back to reality.
Her face lit up.
"Adam-sama!"
Without a moment's hesitation, she rushed toward the living room.
!
The moment she stepped inside, she froze.
"Oh, Asia."
Adam smiled.
"I'm back."
Asia's eyes lingered on Adam's smile for a brief moment before shifting down to Mittelt, who looked particularly uncomfortable under her gaze.
Then, slowly, her eyes moved to the girl standing beside Mittelt.
A girl she had definitely never seen before.
"I forgot to tell you," Adam said with an awkward smile as he scratched the back of his neck. "We'll have another maid living here. I hope you don't mind..."
Asia fell silent.
She very clearly did mind.
