His face was beautiful, and his blonde hair that fell to his nape, combined with his blue eyes, as if they were fragments of the sky, elevated his charm to a divine level—a look that, in the past, would have made him mistaken for a god walking among humans. Which, in fact, had happened at one point—a distant memory of a time when he was confused with the sun god himself, Apollo.
This even irritated the gods of that era...
Fortunately, back then, Adam had no interest in being worshiped. His heart was filled with hatred, and it was hard for anything other than finding ways to hurt Lucifer to catch his attention.
"How did I let myself get to this point…?"
As his eyes wandered over his face and body, despite his near-perfect features, Adam could see signs of deterioration. His body still bore muscle from the days when he needed to be in top shape, but since the end of the great war, he had grown significantly thinner—a consequence of his centuries-long isolation.
Cursed by God to endlessly roam the Earth, he didn't need food to maintain his strength. However, by abstaining from sustenance, his own life energy sustained him, which proved to be draining on his body after centuries of neglect.
He looked like a mere shell of the warrior who once fought tirelessly in the great war…
It was…
"Disappointing…" he spat, turning his gaze away from the mirror as he headed to the kitchen to prepare a meal.
He felt disappointed in himself. To remain stagnant for centuries like this? Damn, it was a disgrace to him.
With the mind of a warrior, a trained soldier, and someone who knew the dangers of this world, he, the man among men, felt like a complete failure.
"Damn, even that Adam from that stupid musical series did better." He stifled a sigh, his hands skillfully chopping vegetables.
It was all frustrating…
But at least he wasn't the same Adam who drowned in self-deprecation. Vengeance, anger, anguish? A bit of that still lingered in his heart, but he wouldn't let it consume him again.
All those negative feelings were quickly replaced with an unwavering resolve for improvement.
Placing the chopped vegetables in a single container, he blended them with his newly purchased blender.
In this world full of supernatural beings who could obliterate him with a snap of their fingers, he couldn't afford to live carelessly. He wanted to explore it, driven by a curiosity born of a part of his soul that had only seen such things on a screen.
But for that, he needed power—power sufficient to face any threat thrown his way. And he knew there were MANY of those.
"This looks… decent." Pouring the vegetable smoothie into a large glass, he observed the mixture with an impassive face. "Well, I need to replenish nutrients somehow."
Grasping the glass, he drank its contents in one go without hesitation, his eyes narrowing momentarily at the strange taste before placing the glass in the sink and shrugging.
For thousands of years, he had consumed things far worse and even more disgusting than this. In truth, few things could make him wrinkle his nose anymore.
"All right, it's still 6 AM." His eyes landed on a clock on the table—another recent purchase.
For now, he would stick to something simple yet effective: maintaining a good diet and regular exercise until his body recovered.
As for what came next, he still had to figure that out, since…
!
Adam blinked as a sensation numbed his senses. An intense heat originated from his chest, and his eyes darted to his hands to notice a faint glow pulsating beneath his skin.
He had discovered something entirely new.
Since his expulsion from Eden, all his divine connections had been "sealed." He had always been able to feel the potential within his body, but for centuries, he had never been able to access it.
His body could strengthen to a certain point, stagnating entirely at a level slightly above that of seasoned warriors.
His talent for magic? Nonexistent.
He was the first—the one who should have been able to reach even God—yet he had been condemned to stagnation. A true punishment for the man who desired to kill Lucifer with his bare hands.
But now?
!
The light faded, the sensation subsiding as he exhaled.
Since awakening as a new Adam, he had been able to sense this power deep within his soul. He didn't know if it had something to do with God's death, but undoubtedly, the potential once denied to him—the power he should have had since birth—seemed to have returned.
Unfortunately, it hadn't progressed since Eden, leaving him at the initial stage…
At least now, he could sense that his growth was no longer stunted.
"If only God had died 1,500 years earlier…" he said mockingly.
When God died, the information wasn't disclosed during the war, but Adam had felt it clearly. Of course, after being abandoned, he cared little about whether his Father lived or not, so he merely shrugged it off.
It brought him no satisfaction, but it was far from saddening him...
At least now, it allowed him to feel happiness, as his death was the reason he could finally achieve what he had sought for millennia.
Power.
"..." Adam opened and closed his fist, sighing as he felt his lack of strength.
Well, at least he now had the chance to cultivate it.
Setting the matter aside for now, knowing he had eternity to explore his newfound potential, he stepped outside.
'A new lease on life, huh?' He smiled and took a deep breath, exhaling with serenity. 'I'll make sure not to waste it.'
Heading to the sidewalk, he watched people leaving their homes. Adults heading to work, teenagers and children going to school, and some elderly folks taking their morning walks.
'I could get used to this.' Nodding in satisfaction, he turned to start his jog. 'Might as well pick up some more groceries.'
Wearing a comfortable shirt and sweatpants, he caught the attention of several women who saw his face.
Quite natural, considering it was one crafted in the Creator's likeness. If he willed it, he could enchant anyone with his beauty, man or woman…
Adam shivered.
"..."
Ignoring the stares, he began jogging at a steady pace. He wanted to cover a good number of miles, as he needed to make up for centuries of lost endurance.
Until his body fully recovered, he would repeat this process until his legs threatened to give out.
That was his initial goal.
Picking up the pace, he passed the entranced women.
'Maybe I should change the time of these runs…'
. . .
Sitting on a bench by the riverside, Adam regulated his breathing. Sweat glistened on his skin, and his hair was slightly damp, prompting him to slick it back.
After several hours of jogging to test his stamina, Adam discovered that despite neglecting his body for so long, his endurance was still sufficient for hours of continuous running.
This gave him a solid idea for his training, as he wasn't so deteriorated that a few minutes of exercise would break him.
'I still have a perfect body, after all.' He recalled what had been said to him in Eden.
His eyes wandered to the river cutting through the city. The sun was in the sky, but it had been hotter earlier, so he guessed it was already past 2 PM.
"It's a great way to start the day," he murmured.
"..."
The silence cut through his words as he continued observing the sky for a few seconds.
But feeling a strange sensation of being watched, he turned his head to see a girl standing by a tree, silently observing him.
"Huh?" He blinked, a bit confused.
He glanced at the girl. Her black hair was tied in two braids, slightly messy with loose strands here and there. She wore glasses, and though she wasn't strikingly beautiful, there was a certain charm that caught his attention.
"Hey…"
He tried to call out to her, intending to ask if she needed something, but as soon as their eyes met, the girl seemed to snap out of a trance. Realizing she had been caught staring, she quickly walked away with hurried steps.
"..."
Adam watched her leave in silence, his eyes following her for a few seconds before turning back to the river.
"..." He narrowed his eyes, recalling the strange sensation that struck him when he saw the girl, who seemed to be a student judging by her uniform. "Why do I feel like I've seen her somewhere before…?"
And with that lingering question, Adam left to finish his day.
