Chapter 54 - Woman In The Moonlight

Not far from the villa, as night began to fall, Ada Wong—who was a few kilometers away—decided to approach on foot to observe them more closely, leaving her vehicle behind since it would look suspicious if she drove closer. She carried a hiker's backpack, planning to pose as a mountaineer exploring the Arklay Mountains.

But along the way, she caught a whiff of a rotten stench in the air. She felt as though someone was watching her from behind, yet when she turned around, there was nothing. Not far from Ada, six dog-like figures with decayed, rotting bodies were lurking in the shadows of the night.

Four of them suddenly darted toward her with frightening speed. Ada, sensing movement, reacted instantly, gripping her pistol and aiming at the six dogs that were rushing at her.

"What the hell—?!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

She fired quickly, but her shots failed to bring them down since they didn't hit their heads.

Click.

The gun was empty. "Damn it!" Ada cursed, quickly tossing her bag at them before rolling away to dodge the snapping jaws of one of the beasts. She then decided to run, reloading her weapon with a fresh magazine while trying to create distance.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of gunfire echoed through the forest, far from the villa's location. Ada managed to kill two of the dogs with headshots.

"Ohhh, so you have to shoot them in the head…" she muttered in frustration, annoyed that the people who had sent her hadn't bothered to tell her such a crucial detail.

She raised her pistol, intending to deal with the remaining dogs, but by now she was out of both bullets and magazines. Her body was exhausted from running and dodging multiple close calls. Surrounded, she found herself standing helpless in the middle of the zombie dogs' encirclement.

"So this is how it ends for me…"

For the first time, Ada truly felt the fear of death. Facing monsters like these, she doubted she could endure the agony of being torn apart. The four remaining dogs lunged at her simultaneously, leaping toward her.

Ada shut her eyes tight—yet the pain she expected never came. Instead, when she opened them, she saw the zombie dogs lying dead, each with an arrow pierced straight through their skulls, pinning them firmly into the ground.

Bathed in the pale glow of the moonlight, a silver-haired woman emerged, bow in hand, walking gracefully toward her. Her revealing outfit, decorated with shades of blue and paired with a short skirt, exuded a wild, untamed charm—like nature itself given form.

Seeing the woman approach, Ada felt a twinge of nervousness. She knew exactly who this was: one of her target's wives. The data she'd reviewed had identified her—Artemis Einzbern, a master archer who had once won countless Olympic contests in her youth.

"Thanks… for saving me," Ada said cautiously.

"Who are you… and what are you doing here at night?" Artemis asked, her moonlight-blue eyes fixed on the short-haired woman in a flared shirt and jeans.

"Ahh, my name is Ada Wong." Ada extended her hand, dirtied from rolling across the ground.

"Artemis Winters," Artemis introduced herself, using her married name after her union with her husband.

"So why are you here? Didn't you read the news that this area is dangerous?" Artemis questioned.

"If it's so dangerous, then why are you here as well?" Ada shot back.

"I was just taking a walk," Artemis replied casually. It seemed that after living with Allen, she had begun picking up some of his habits.

Ada heard Artemis's words as if they were nothing unusual, but she felt confused, unable to process them. 'A stroll? Is she insane—without any guards?' she thought.

"You still haven't told me what your purpose here is—what are you doing?" Artemis asked while pulling out her four arrows, washing them clean with water, and sliding them back into her quiver.

"Ah, about that… I'm an FBI agent investigating cases of people disappearing in this mountain. I'm also searching for my boyfriend, John Clemens. Word is, he vanished while training at Umbrella Corporation."

"Ohhh… in that case, I wish you success." Artemis looked like she wanted to head back quickly, unwilling to linger too long with Ada, let alone meddle in another woman's love life. Besides, as a goddess, she could see through Ada's lie—it was impossible to deceive her eyes.

Noticing Artemis's indifference to her situation, Ada tried to stop her.

"Wait… may I follow you? I've run out of ammunition, and it's already dark. I was hoping I could stay at your place until morning."

Of course, Ada had no intention of missing such an opportunity.

Artemis studied her. Ada looked dirty, covered in scratches—this woman could very well die if she returned alone without anything to protect herself.

"Very well. Come with me."

They walked for quite a while before finally reaching the villa.

"Thank goodness you're safe," Karen said as she came to greet her sister. "And who is this woman?"

"You worry too much about unnecessary things, Sister Karen… As for this woman, I found her on my way back to the villa—she nearly got eaten by four mutant dogs out there."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Ada Wong, but you can just call me Ada. I'm FBI"

Karen also introduced herself to Ada in a casual manner. As for whether she was truly FBI or not, she didn't really care.

"We can talk inside. Are you hungry? Dinner has just been prepared," Lupo said politely. As the mistress of the villa, she had to be courteous to guests, especially since Artemis didn't seem to mind the offer.

Artemis went in first, wanting to clean herself up in the bathroom.

Meanwhile, Allen, who was still in the laboratory, received word that his wife had returned for dinner. He quickly wrapped up his work and secured the vial containing the serum.

"Finally… this serum is perfect, without any side effects. I'm sure Alex will like this. With it, she'll be able to defeat the Tyrant easily," Allen muttered.

He hadn't expected his research to be completed this quickly. According to the data, the serum could boost strength and durability up to threefold—on par with a Tyrant. That meant Allen no longer had to worry if his women were ever shot with a .50 caliber round. Although the pain would still be there, at least it wouldn't cause serious injuries.

In the dining room, when Allen arrived, he noticed a woman who looked somewhat familiar.

"Who is she?" Allen asked Karen, since Artemis seemed to still be in the bath.

"She's Ada Wong, an FBI agent that Artemis brought here," Karen replied while sitting beside Allen.

Allen glanced at Ada, noticing the dirt on her clothes and the scratches on her skin. He couldn't help but wonder how she ended up here.

"What are you doing around this area? Aren't you afraid of the dangers? Even if you're a trained FBI agent, it's still dangerous," Allen asked, playing along with the woman's story.

"I'm looking for my boyfriend, John Clemens. He's a trainer working for Umbrella, but a few days ago he went missing. I got worried, so I started investigating his whereabouts," Ada explained, giving the same excuse she had told Artemis earlier.

"Ohhh, good luck then," Allen replied casually.

Not long after, Artemis came out, refreshed from her bath. She walked over to Allen, sat on his lap, and kissed him in front of everyone.

Since Raviel and the other girls weren't around, she took the opportunity to do this. And of course, Allen didn't refuse—he kissed Artemis back with passion.

Before long, their kiss came to an end.

"Alright, let's eat first. We can continue later," Allen whispered.

"Okay…" Artemis replied softly, then sat beside him.

"Come on, let's eat first. We can talk more afterward," Allen said with a smile. As for Yoko and the rest of the Black Rose, they prefer to eat in their own rooms, after all, Allen doesn't want to force them to join the dinner.

Ada, watching their behavior, couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy. When Allen smiled at her, her face flushed slightly.

Damn… this man is way too handsome and dangerously charming for women, Ada thought. Even she, who had never been interested in men and had never been in a relationship, felt herself being swayed a little.

During the meal, Artemis deliberately fed Allen bites of food right in front of their guest. Seeing this, Karen joined in, offering Allen her own food as well.

"Okay, one at a time. I won't be able to finish my meal if you two keep this up," Allen said helplessly.

"Hehe~" Artemis only giggled playfully, while Karen simply smiled.

After dinner, Allen escorted Ada to the guest room where she could spend the night.

"You can use this room to stay," he said.

"Thank you," Ada replied with a slight bow.

"Alright then, I'll leave you here. If you need anything or have questions, I'll be in the living room later," Allen added before leaving, since he needed to clean himself up first.

Once she had finished bathing, Ada decided to take a short walk around the villa. Eventually, she came across a room that seemed to lead to Yoko's workspace. Curious about what was inside, she reached for the door handle—

"What are you doing here?"

The voice came from a tall woman who had just appeared. She was Michaela Schneider, codename Bertha, assigned to guard the interior of the villa while the others kept watch outside.

"I was just checking out the room," Ada replied casually to the woman she had just met.

"This room is restricted. Please leave, and don't wander into places you shouldn't. Remember, you're only a guest here," Michaela said firmly, her tone carrying a clear warning.

"…Alright, I'll go," Ada answered calmly, then decided to head toward the living room instead to talk with Allen.

She had wanted to ask what that room was for, but Ada realized pressing further might only cause problems. She didn't want to risk being kicked out in the middle of the night and end up wandering aimlessly through the forest.

In the living room, Allen was sitting with Artemis, who was clinging to him like a body pillow. Ada thought about leaving, since it seemed like she was interrupting their time together. But it was already too late—Artemis opened her eyes and spoke up.

"Darling, if you two want some time alone to talk, I'd better wait in the bedroom," Artemis said.

"Alright… I promise it won't take long," Allen replied.

With that, Artemis stood up and left the room.

Allen then rose to his feet, motioned for Ada to sit, and fetched a bottle of wine from the cabinet. He poured her a glass and offered it to her.

"Thank you," Ada said softly.

"So, what is it you want to talk about?" Allen asked.

"First, I want to thank you for letting me stay here," Ada said, before continuing. "And about John… to be honest, he and I were just acquaintances. We had only recently started talking to each other. But when I received the report that he suddenly disappeared, I became uneasy. That's why I came to the Arkley Mountains."

Ada spoke in a very convincing tone—her acting was, without a doubt, top-notch.

"Ohhh, if this is about your love life, then stop right there. I honestly don't care. That's your business, and I don't want to get involved," Allen replied, sounding completely indifferent to John's fate. After all, why would he care about the life of some man he didn't even know?

Hearing that, Ada bit her lip slightly. Does this guy not have a shred of concern for others?

But she didn't give up just yet. "I know you once worked for Umbrella, so… do you know anything about John?"

"Not at all. I've never even heard his name. But if you really want to look for him, head east. I'm sure you'll find some leads there—there's an abandoned Umbrella facility in that area."

"But it's dangerous out there. I nearly died just trying to get here," she replied, her tone carrying a subtle plea for help.

"My advice is simple—just give up," Allen said bluntly, offering the easiest solution.

"But I can't leave John behind, not alone," Ada insisted.

"Well, that's your problem, not mine. I don't want to get any more involved. The only thing I can do for you is let you stay here for a few days. That's all I can offer," Allen said firmly.

"Of course, I'll accept your offer. By the way… that room at the end of the hallway—what is it used for?"

"Ohhh, that's Yoko's room. She works here and prefers not to be disturbed. So I hope you won't wander into rooms you shouldn't. If that's all you wanted to ask, then I'll be leaving now."

"Yes, of course," Ada replied.

Note : Hey I want to ask if you think Allen should go to which world after this RE arc is finished, please comment your recommendations.
