After wrapping things up at the R.P.D., Allen decided it was time to head out.
"Boss, where are we going now?" Michaela asked as she drove, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.
"We're going to Raccoon City Hospital. There's something I need to take care of there," Allen said while staring out the window at the skyline of Raccoon City. The morning sun was barely cutting through the thick gray haze hanging over the city, a sign that something was already going wrong beneath the surface.
"If you don't mind me asking… what exactly do you plan to do there?" Michaela's tone carried a hint of worry. She knew very well that the hospital was directly connected to Umbrella's underground research wing—an area no normal person had any business stepping into.
"Well, I'm planning to access their security network—the one managed by Red Queen," Allen replied, pulling out a compact device from his coat. A faint blue light ran across its surface. "If I can break into the server, I'll be able to monitor Umbrella's movements before they make their next move."
It was the device Yoko Suzuki had built and handed to him earlier that morning, right before he left for the R.P.D.
Michaela frowned slightly. "Boss… you know that's dangerous, right? Especially if you go in alone."
Allen smirked a little. "Yeah, I figured. Which is why I'm asking—are you coming with me? You know… to watch my back." He turned his eyes toward her.
Michaela nodded without hesitation. "Of course. I'm assigned to protect you today anyway," she said, while keeping her focus on the road but tightening her grip on the steering wheel. Well, you could say she's pretty excited about what they're going to do anyway.
A few minutes later, they descended into the dimly lit underground parking area of Raccoon City Hospital. The concrete walls were cold, the fluorescent lights flickering weakly as if the entire building was running on borrowed time. The quiet hum of the engine echoed unnaturally in the empty garage, giving both of them a sense that stepping out of the car would be the last moment of normalcy they'd feel today.
Allen then opened his case, revealing a different set of nanotech bracelets inside—unlike the previous ones, these weren't made of vibranium. Their purpose was completely different. These bracelets incorporated Pym-particle tech, allowing the wearer to shrink down to a tiny size so they could infiltrate Umbrella's facility without being detected.
"Alright, Bertha, you can swap your bracelet with this one," Allen said, handing the device to Michaela and motioning for her to replace her usual vibranium unit.
Michaela looked slightly confused, wondering what exactly made this equipment different from the one she usually wore. Still, she followed his instruction without question. But the moment she removed her original bracelet, her entire outfit dissolved along with it—dropping away instantly and leaving her completely naked.
Allen froze for a moment, instinctively staring as Michaela stood there with not a single piece of clothing left on her body.
"Boss… please don't stare at me for that long…" she muttered, her face flushing as she quickly tried to cover her chest with one arm and her lower body with the other. Despite the situation, she still kept her posture controlled, though clearly embarrassed.
"Well, don't blame me for staring at you like this, okay? I mean, why weren't you wearing any underwear or even normal clothes under your suit? And stop acting all shy now— I've already seen everything anyway," Allen said, his eyes naturally following Michaela's uncovered figure. Honestly, it wasn't like he was going to waste a chance like this.
"Boss, you're such a pervert," Michaela shot back, teasing him, though her cheeks were slightly red. Allen, of course, didn't bother denying it.
"Well, the reason I wasn't wearing anything is because the suit you gave me is way more practical. I can switch forms instantly, and I've already gotten used to not wearing anything underneath, okay?" Michaela argued defensively. She quickly slipped on the new bracelet and activated the nanosuit. In an instant, a sleek layer of armor wrapped around her body, covering her completely— much to Allen's disappointment.
"Great, now you can stop staring," she huffed, crossing her arms once the suit fully materialized.
Allen only smirked, "Yeah, yeah… but don't act like you didn't know exactly what would happen when you took that bracelet off."
Michaela just rolled her eyes, because her boss is truly shameless.
.....
Not long after that, Allen and Michaela stepped out of the car and made their way toward a hidden access point not far from the wastewater disposal area.
"Boss, are we really not bringing any weapons?" Michaela asked, sounding unsure. "I mean… won't that be a problem?"
"Well, we can bring a sidearm just in case," Allen replied while gripping the metal cover of the manhole. "But we're not going in there to fight. Not much, anyway."
He lifted the cover but hesitated before going down. The foul smell hit him immediately, making him grimace.
Michaela, of course, noticed—and couldn't hold back a smirk.
"Boss, want to turn back? You look like you're already suffering," she teased.
"Tsk. Quiet… Wednesday, do the thing," Allen muttered.
A moment later, their suits sealed up around their bodies, forming airtight protection masks.
"Alright, let's go down. Oh, and Bertha—be careful not to accidentally press any of the buttons on your gloves," Allen warned as he climbed down first using the iron rungs.
That made Michaela look at her gloves more closely, and sure enough, she found a row of unfamiliar buttons embedded along the sides.
"What are these even for…?" she mumbled, pressing one experimentally.
And then—SWISSSHH.
The world suddenly ballooned outward around her. No, the world didn't grow—she shrank. Instantly.
"AHHHH! Boss, what—BOSS, HELP!" Michaela shrieked as her tiny body slipped and tumbled straight down the manhole.
Her heart nearly exploded from panic—she was falling from a massive height and certain she would die.
Allen heard her scream and whipped around. His eyes widened when he saw a tiny figure—no bigger than an ant—plummeting.
He immediately reached out and caught her before she hit the wastewater stream below.
"Told you to be careful… naughty girl," Allen said, lifting his palm closer so he could see her.
"B-Boss?! Why are you a giant—no wait, WHY AM I SMALL!?" she yelled, her voice trembling as she realized what had actually happened.
"Relax. See the button on your left glove?" Allen asked calmly.
Michaela nodded nervously. "Yes! Do I press it? Will that make me big again?"
"Yeah. Double tap it."
The moment she did—WHOOMP—her body shot back up to normal size in an instant.
"Whoa—!" Allen reacted quickly, grabbing her before she toppled forward into the sewer water.
And without meaning to, his hand landed firmly on her backside as he steadied her.
Michaela froze.
Allen also froze for half a second.
"…Well," Allen said, raising a brow, "I did warn you to be careful."
Michaela's cheeks turned bright red, and she smacked his shoulder lightly.
"B-Boss… your hand. Move it. Unless you're planning to keep holding it hostage."
Allen didn't let go immediately.
Maybe… one second longer than necessary.
"Just making sure you don't fall again," he replied with a grin, his voice full of playful mischief.
Michaela clicked her tongue but didn't pull away as fast as she pretended she wanted to.
"…Pervert," she muttered under her breath—though not nearly as annoyed as she tried to sound.
"Okay, okay, let's keep moving. Yoko, we're inside—give me directions," Allen said through the comm line.
Meanwhile, Yoko was lounging in her chair, casually slurping instant noodles.
"Oh, Allen, so you two finally made it inside? Alright, alright… just keep walking straight. After about a hundred meters, you'll see a hidden door you can unlock with a special ID. It's located at a dead end," Yoko explained after checking Allen's position on her monitor, then immediately went back to eating.
"Okay, thanks," Allen replied before continuing down the underground drainage tunnel with Michaela right behind him.
.....
As they continued deeper into the tunnels, Allen and Bertha ran into a few creatures lurking in the darkness—oversized roaches skittering along the walls and sewer rats bold enough to charge at them. But Allen and Bertha dispatched them with little effort.
BANG!
"Hmmm… looks like this place really has no chance of being saved anymore," Allen muttered, lowering his pistol slightly as another rat collapsed into the filthy water. "It's only a matter of time before the government decides to 'clean' this entire area to stop the spread."
"'Clean' it?" Bertha asked, glancing his way. "Boss, what do you mean by 'clean' exactly?"
"Well," Allen replied casually, firing another round, BANG, "the only way to properly wipe out something like this is with high-temperature bombs, missiles, or maybe even a nuclear strike."
"Nuclear…?" Bertha nearly choked on her own breath. "Isn't that way too much? You can't be serious about them launching a nuclear missile."
Allen shrugged like it was nothing unusual.
"Well, the Federation's been designing a new type of warhead anyway. The radiation it produces is supposedly minimal, so the fallout wouldn't be as devastating. But… if they want to cover up their involvement—destroy all evidence—then yeah. They'd fire it without hesitation so the public never finds out."
Bang.
The echo of the gunshot rolled through the sewer as they kept walking, the stench, the darkness, and the quiet drip of water making Allen's words feel even heavier.
Not long after, the two finally reached the hidden access tunnel, and Allen pulled out the special ID card he'd gotten from Alex—his lover. It was his first time ever using this kind of clearance. With this card, the system wouldn't register their presence at all; to Umbrella's security network, they simply wouldn't exist.
Allen slid the card through the concealed reader.
Beep…
The sealed metal door shuddered, hissed, and slowly unlocked. Inside was a freight-style elevator, reinforced and clearly not meant for normal hospital staff. This lift went straight to the deepest layer of the underground complex—down where the primary server core and Dr. William Birkin's private laboratory were located.
"Alright, Bertha. Stay sharp from here," Allen muttered.
"Oke".
They stepped in, boots echoing against the steel floor. Allen pressed the lowest button—B7 Sub-Basement. The panel flickered for a moment, almost like the system was trying to resist the unauthorized command. But the ID override forced it to comply.
The doors slid shut with a heavy metallic thud.
And in that final sliver before the doors sealed completely…
Bertha didn't notice it.
Allen didn't notice it.
But something else did.
A single, grotesque, bloodshot eye—far too large to belong to anything human—watched them from the far end of the tunnel. The iris contracted, the creature leaning forward as the elevator sealed the view.
That eye belonged to William Birkin himself.
No longer a man. No longer even a scientist.
Just a mutating mass of claws, tendons, and hatred.
And unfortunately…
Allen and Bertha had no idea that Birkin had already sensed them entering his territory.
He followed movement through vibrations, through scent, through the faintest trace of sound in the tunnels.
The moment the elevator began descending, William tilted his monstrous head, muscles twitching in anticipation.
Not long after, a deafening roar echoed through the underground corridors—William's twisted, rage-filled scream shaking the metal walls as if he intended to tear the entire facility apart with nothing but fury alone. The sound reverberated like something primal and enraged, a monster aware that intruders had stepped into his domain.
Unfortunately for him, Allen and Bertha were already long gone from the area where he sensed movement. They were descending deeper through Umbrella's hidden infrastructure, moving farther and farther away from the source of the roar. But even so, one thing was certain—William would not let them escape so easily. Instinct, mutation, and whatever fragments of his warped consciousness remained all pushed him to hunt, to chase, to tear apart anything that dared trespass.
He staggered forward, massive claws scraping against steel walkways as he forced his mutated body to move. Each step shook the environment, each breath sounding like a broken engine struggling to ignite. But despite his monstrous strength, the labyrinth of tunnels and the distance between them meant it would take time—for William to finally close in.
