Chapter 29 - Self-Conquest Is the Deadliest

"Is that so?"

Mo Linglong arched a brow as she listened to Han Yuyao's declaration of ownership, then cast a cool glance at Huang Yu.

"You really are restless," she said.

"Whether at school or here in the hospital, you never forget to flirt with the opposite sex."

She deliberately emphasized the words "school" and "study."

To her, Han Yuyao was just another girl—someone disposable, never worth taking seriously.

But Han Yuyao, having heard Huang Yu and Mo Linglong's history abroad through his inner thoughts, knew exactly what that remark implied.

Her teeth gritted in anger.

"Is that so?"

Han Yuyao's expression instantly turned cold.

She cast a sharp sidelong glance at Huang Yu.

It was all this bastard's fault. If he didn't spend every day flirting with girls, where would all these messy romantic debts even come from?

Huang Yu felt helpless and unfairly trapped.

When the hell did I ever ask this violent bear girl to be my girlfriend?

And honestly… I don't want either of you!

The moment these thoughts crossed his mind, he felt two killing stares boring into him.

The tension in the room skyrocketed. Both women's faces had turned icy, their expressions nearly predatory.

Huang Yu swallowed hard and stammered, "I didn't say anything! Don't drag me into this fight!"

Bastard!

Both women wanted nothing more than to drag this scum out and give him a proper lesson.

Han Yuyao was his childhood friend, and Mo Linglong his ex. Both believed he should stand up for them.

Yet here he was, saying such irresponsible things!

"Looks like you didn't get your shot yesterday. Your condition seems a little off today,"

Mo Linglong sneered and slowly picked up a pre-prepared No. 7 syringe from the tray.

"Officer Han, what do you think?"

Han Yuyao glared at Huang Yu, this irresponsible jerk, the one who hadn't even bothered to defend her despite being her childhood friend.

"I agree."

She nodded, anger brimming in her tone.

Han Yuyao stepped forward, ready to hold him in place.

"No!"

Huang Yu's face contorted into something uglier than crying.

You two were ready to tear each other apart a moment ago, and now it's all peaceful? Great, no one's sticking up for me!

He muttered inwardly.

The most obedient little sister wasn't around right now. Though he could easily unlock the cuffs on the hospital bed, doing so openly would expose his strength—and there was no way he could survive that.

After all, these two women were the main heroines surrounding the crooked-mouth Xiao Zhan in the original story.

And Huang Yu, a former minor villain and sycophant, now wielded incredible hidden power.

The bigger the tree, the more wind it attracts.

This was clearly setting up Xiao Zhan—or any other "Dragon Aotian" protagonist—for experience points!

If it weren't for the fact that you two are women, I'd punch both of you straight to Siberia with my current strength.

He silently grumbled.

Even with the ability to escape, he had no real options.

Hearing Huang Yu's inner thoughts, Han Yuyao's heart skipped a beat. She recalled how earlier, when she tried to subdue him, he had allowed her to twist his arm in counterattack…

That bastard had been holding back all along!

But just how deep did Huang Yu's hidden strength go?

Han Yuyao didn't have a precise grasp, but she trusted the accuracy of inner thoughts like prophecy.

Thinking that this scum had hidden himself so well for years—even deceiving her—only strengthened her resolve.

Huang Yu must have disliked her from childhood. Otherwise, why endure all her beatings without retaliating?

And why did he always get caught trying to flirt with other girls? Was it all to get her attention?

The more she thought, the more convinced she became.

Hmph!

He said he didn't care about me, but clearly he was afraid of hurting me.

Gradually, Han Yuyao felt a pang of emotion as she stared at Huang Yu.

So this bastard had spent so much energy just for her?

A hint of sadness flickered in her beautiful eyes.

Fool… you didn't have to go to all this trouble.

At that moment, she truly understood her feelings.

If Huang Yu could hear her thoughts, he would probably spit blood.

Come on!

Big sis! Do you really have to self-conquer yourself this deeply?!

He hadn't done anything, and yet somehow he had become "liking her"?

Every time he got caught flirting, it was clearly because she had been pestering him as a child.

Mo Linglong, on the other hand, did not look so pleased.

Upon hearing Huang Yu's inner thoughts, her expression instantly hardened.

That bastard had once dumped her coldly, and now he was trying to tease her again.

"You seem seriously ill. You're getting two proper injections today."

Mo Linglong's face remained neutral, but the coldness in her eyes had grown unmistakably sharper.

Huang Yu felt utterly hopeless.

Exposing his strength was something he could only think about in private.

Fine, let Linglong vent her anger. Even if I had my reasons back then, dumping a scumbag is justifiable.

Just as he prepared to close his eyes and accept fate, Mo Linglong—who had heard his inner thoughts—paused.

Her beautiful eyes flickered, and she slowly lowered the syringe.

"Reasons…"

Huang Yu waited a long while, but the needle never came down.

He opened his eyes and peeked discreetly.

Mo Linglong was standing there, staring at him with a strange, unreadable expression.

Han Yuyao had already come to a conclusion.

Everything Huang Yu had done had been to get her attention.

How could she ever disappoint someone who had sought her heart so earnestly?

She stepped forward and blocked Mo Linglong.

"Linglong-jie, I know you can't forget him, but you also—"

"Who says?"

Before Han Yuyao could finish, Mo Linglong cut her off, withdrawing her gaze from Huang Yu.

She brushed the hair from her face, sneered lightly, and said,

"I've long forgotten who that scumbag is. He just reminded me a little of someone I once loved."

"But from now on, our paths are separate. Take care of yourself."

Then, without hesitation, she turned and walked away.

Huang Yu froze.

That line… sounds awfully familiar.

Wasn't that exactly what I said yesterday at Liu Group to that ridiculous Liu Ruyan?

Even her tone matches mine. Could it be… revenge?

Huang Yu was speechless. This seemed to be the first time he had ever been dumped by a woman.

"Serves you right!"

Han Yuyao muttered softly as she watched his embarrassed expression.

What Huang Yu didn't notice was the faint curve of Mo Linglong's lips as she walked away.
