"I'm just here to pick up some things," Mabel Quinn said, knowing full well that her mother wouldn't treat her kindly. Yet, hearing her mother's words still pierced her heart.
"You want to take something? Hmph, haven't you already latched onto Mr. Kinston? What else do you need to come back for? Let me tell you, I would rather burn and destroy your things than give them to you!" Evelina retorted angrily. Thinking of her daughter living with Mr. Kinston in such a grand mansion, riding in luxury cars, while she and her son were still cramped in this small house—Mabel wouldn't even spare a word to help them. Evelina felt like she'd raised an ungrateful child.
At that moment, Evelina wished she could vent all her frustration onto her daughter.
Mabel's expression changed dramatically. Among her belongings were many memories she shared with her father. If her mother really burned them, then even those memories with her father would be gone!
