Chapter 62 - The Reason Why He Doesn't Look At Me.

Because I did. At least last night, I did.

"He's not even looking at me," I whispered to Marissa, my eyes fixed on him. I was so close to his table, yet his gaze was somewhere else—anywhere but me.

"He didn't look at you yesterday either," she said softly, "but he still found time to be with you later."

She was right. But this felt different.

The king stepped forward and welcomed everyone. His voice was calm, but firm. He said he had noticed how few women took part in the past games, so he created something fun just for us this time.

No one knew what that meant. The king never played by the rules. His idea of fun could be anything—something wild, something strange... or something no one else would enjoy.

After his speech, I quickly found a spot near the front and sat down, my eyes stealing glances at him from the side. But not once did he turn toward me. Not even a glance. Why?
