Sophia called today and something felt really off. Her tone was unusual, and even though Alice couldn't see her, she just knew something was not right with Sophia today.
"You're right, but how can I explain this to you?" Sophia stammered, unable to find the words. Hearing this only strengthened Alice's feeling that something was amiss, and this feeling grew stronger and stronger.
Alice leaned back in her chair, her brow slightly furrowed. "Mom! Just tell me whatever you want to say, don't hold back."
Even over the phone, she could sense her mother's breathing had become abnormal.
"...Well, the thing is, Easton's real mom was my best friend," Sophia hesitated for a long time, and finally forced out this sentence with difficulty.
As soon as she heard this, Alice jumped up from her chair. Luckily, she was in her own office, otherwise, she might have given her colleagues a fright. "What?! That kid's real mom was your best friend?"
