Chapter 8 - 8: BOARD MEETING

GABE

"Is everything ready Marco?" I asked immediately he picked the call, taking the phone to my ear.

I currently have a meeting to attend in about ten minutes, and I wasn't even ready. I don't understand how I would have slept this late. Marco, swears that he tried to wake me up, but I was adamant on sleeping in.

I'll definitely deal with him later.

I hurriedly stepped into the shower, quickly taking my bath and running back out as fast as I could. I wore the suit that one of my maids already prepared for me before I traveled two days ago. It was a brown suit, with gold embroidery on the side.

This was one of my favorite suits. I put on my watch, and stepped out of the room, with my briefcase in hand. I checked the time on my wristwatch, looking at how many minutes I had left.

"Good, I have five more minutes, and I can be late for just another five minutes, so that's ten in total. Just enough for me to get to work."

I hopped into my car, tossing my briefcase to the passenger's seat. I turned on the engine, and zoomed out of the compound at full speed. I got to the hospital in eight minutes, leaving me with two minutes to go to the boardroom that was on the first floor.

This meeting was as important as my life, because it would determine how well i can gain the trust of potential clients, so i couldn't fuck the up.

I stepped out of my car, not forgetting to turn off the car and lock it automatically with the car keys. I walked as fast as I could, tightly holding my briefcase in hand.

The elevator came into view, and I was thankful there was no one around. I stepped in, and pressed the button to go to the first floor.

As the elevator started ascending, and counting, I stared hard at the ceiling. I hadn't had the time to prepare my speech so I didn't even know what I was going to say there.

Well, I was a smart person, so I knew I could pull through. Just then, a call came in interrupting my thoughts. I glanced at my phone screen, and groaned when I saw it read Marco.

"What is it?" I picked up the call, and took it to my ear.

"Where are you? You are four minutes late!" Marco exclaimed, like I already didn't know that.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "All this wouldn't have happened if you had just woken me up Marco, and you know that" I replied, staring at the elevator as it counted. I kept tapping my right leg on the ground, hoping and wishing that the elevator could go faster than this.

"I tried!!!" He said in a whisper.

"You didn't want to wake up," he added. The elevator stopped, and I burst out of it, walking hastily to the boardroom. I ended the call on Marco, and put the phone in my pocket. I got to the boardroom, and held the doorknob to the door.

I took a deep breath, straightening up my tie, and slicking back my hair. I opened the door, and walked in with confidence. They knew me as someone with power, confidence and courage, and I would love to keep it that way.

As I stepped in, I was greeted with some familiar, and not so familiar faces. Well, not like I cared to know who they were, but I just had to. This was one of the pecks of running a business and a company, you have to engage with people.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Marco walk towards me. He handed me a paper, and I quickly glanced through it. It had exactly what I needed, my speech.

Well he was my right hand man for a reason. I nodded, and gave him a thank you look, making him bow before turning around to walk away.

"Good day Board Members" I greeted as I took a seat at the center.

"Good day Mr. Gabe" they all responded.

"Shall we proceed?" I asked, and they all murmured the word yes.

********

"Today, we conclude on this matter, and we reach an agreement that favors each party," I announced as I stood up from my seat.

"Is there anyone who has anything to say?" I asked.

By now, I had already given my speech and we had all come to an agreement on what would favour each and everyone of us.

The murmurs of people in the board room echoed all around the room, and after a while it died down. A man who looked like he was in his late forties stood up.

"Mr. Gabe, i believe i am speaking for everyone when i saw that we do not have questions and we would like to proceed with this partnership" he uttered, and everyone in the room chorused a yes.

I nodded, satisfied by their reaction. "Alright, you may have your seat," I said.

"Thank you all for your patience, and I hope we will be able to help each other more in the future," I muttered.

"Now this meeting has come to a close" i said, and with that, everyone started to pack up their things to leave.

Within a short while, the board room became empty. I stood by the door, shaking everyone's hands as they left. Marco stood behind me, also bidding them a farewell. Immediately the last person left, and it was only the two of us in the room, I turned to Marco, and roughly grabbed his shirt.

"You!" I groaned at him as I held him tightly.

"I was almost late because of you!"

Marco's whole body stiffened, he knew better than to argue with me. "I'm sorry sir, this would never happen again" he apologized, and i quickly released him.

I never had any intentions of hurting it, but seeing him apologize in fear was really funny.

I straightened his shirt, and gave him a smile. "Want some coffee? I'm craving that after the meeting we just had" I said to him, and I could see his shocked expression. He nodded, after a few seconds, and walked to go pick up our stuff.

As we walked out of the boardroom, my thoughts went to Serena. Malcolm had reported to me that she was still in the hospital. Well, she was going to be there for at least two more weeks, because Dr. Guilio said the stabbing was really fatal. I would be going back in two days, and I would go see her then.

Not like i cared or anything…
