Isabella's mind was spinning with everything Miriam had just told her, but she needed confirmation. She needed to hear it from someone else before she could truly believe it. Because surely there was some mistake. Surely Leofric wouldn't have lied to her so completely.
She found Robert still standing just outside, his face tight with worry. When he saw Isabella's expression, he stepped forward immediately.
"My lady—" He began.
"Come inside," Isabella interrupted, her voice flat. "Now."
Robert followed her into the tea room, his eyes darting nervously between Isabella and Miriam. He knew he was about to face something unpleasant.
"Robert," Isabella said, turning to face him. "Did my husband have a relationship with this woman?"
Robert's jaw clenched. "My lady, I don't think—"
"Just answer the question," Isabella said, her voice harder than she had ever heard it. "Yes or no. Did Leofric have a relationship with this woman?"
