The evening had finally come to an end. Isabella sat at her dressing table while Judith brushed out her hair, the familiar routine usually brought her comfort, but tonight, nothing felt comforting. Nothing felt right.
Isabella stared at her reflection in the mirror. She looked the same as she had that morning, but she felt like a completely different person. How could so much change in just one day?
"My lady," Judith said quietly, her hand pausing mid-stroke through Isabella's hair. "There's something I need to tell you."
Isabella met Judith's eyes in the mirror. Her handmaid looked troubled, her face tight with worry.
"What is it?" Isabella asked, though she wasn't sure she could handle any more revelations today.
Judith set down the brush with trembling hands. "I knew," she whispered. "About Lord Leofric and that woman. I knew before today."
Isabella felt her stomach drop. "What do you mean you knew?"
