Pounds can be exchanged for gold, and gold plays a vital role in the entire wizarding world. It is used in making potions, alchemy, and even learning some magic."

Therefore, Root was not surprised that British pounds could actually be exchanged for gold galleons.

When it comes to refining spells, the achievement system can directly accept pounds or gold instead of relying on gold galleons to redeem the number of refinements. For Root, this was much more convenient.

After thinking about it, Root decided on the spell he wanted to refine. Instead of using gold galleons directly, he tried exchanging pounds.

[News]: Yes/No, spend 100,000 pounds to refine the spell "Avada Kedavra"?

The moment Root saw the system pop-up, his eyes lit up. Pounds could really replace gold galleons for spell refinement.

However, before he could celebrate, his excitement faded. His eyes widened when he saw the amount of money required.

"How much?!"

Root rubbed his eyes and looked at the system panel again. The glittering string of zeros stung his vision.

"One hundred thousand pounds? Gringotts can still exchange that for 20,000 gold galleons. You want to teach me a spell and charge me 10,000 galleons—but if I pay in pounds, it's 100,000?!"

Is this an achievement system or a pay-to-win scam?! Root clenched his fists.

It seemed the most cost-effective way was to use Galleons for spell refinement instead.

With a helpless sigh, Root spent 10,000 gold galleons.

"Could they at least upgrade it to some super-charged Avada Kedavra for me?"

[Message]: You have spent 10,000 gold galleons and unlocked the refinement panel for "Avada Kedavra." Please check the refinement tasks.

Seeing the prompt, Root narrowed his eyes. A bad feeling crept over him.

"I spent money to refine the spell, but instead of telling me what it does, I have to check what refinement task I need to complete?"

He tapped his wand against the system panel, checking the update.

[Spell to be Refined]: Avada Kedavra

[Characteristics to be Unlocked]: Killing Intent and Burning Heaven

[Refinement Task]: Cast the Killing Curse on the same living creature forty-four times to unlock the spell's characteristics.

Root's face darkened.

"You were so eager to take my money, but you didn't bother to tell me in advance that I had to complete a task for the spell to be refined?"

If he could, he would have fired off forty-four consecutive Avada Kedavras at this system out of pure frustration.

"How the hell am I supposed to complete this task?"

But the money was already spent. The task was stuck halfway. There was no choice but to complete it.

Root's eyes gleamed as he thought through his options.

"The task doesn't specify what kind of living creature… so if I use the Killing Curse on a toad, it should work, right?"

If that was the case, he could go to the Forbidden Forest, find an Acromantula, and cast forty-four Killing Curses.

Or maybe just capture a toad or a rat. Even a mosquito or a fly might do.

If necessary, he could even use Transfiguration to create a temporary living creature and cast the spell on it.

"That could work. But whether I go into the Forbidden Forest or practice Avada Kedavra, I need to be fully prepared. I can't afford to be discovered."

After practicing Avada Kedavra once, Root had already spent 10,000 gold galleons and gained nothing. He suddenly lost all motivation to refine any more Dark Magic.

Who knew what absurd tasks other Dark Spells would require?

Maybe practicing the Fiendfyre Curse would involve casting it on Dumbledore ten times.

After some thought, he decided to refine a Transfiguration spell instead.

[News]: Yes/No, spend 10,000 galleons to refine "Transfiguration"?

Because Transfiguration was a broad and complex branch of magic, it wasn't a simple spell.

So far, Root had only mastered Level Seven Transfiguration. With Professor McGonagall's full support, he was steadily progressing toward Level Eight.

Of course, even McGonagall wouldn't claim to have fully mastered the art of Transfiguration. Root still had work to do.

[Message]: You have spent 10,000 gold galleons and unlocked the refinement panel for "Transfiguration." Please check the refinement task.

After spending another 10,000 gold galleons, Root was left with just over 74,000.

He wasn't physically in pain, but watching his money disappear so quickly made him uneasy.

"At this rate, I won't even have enough left to cast a few spells."

He needed to make money fast.

"But how? Besides learning spells, I need to explore the Forbidden Forest for combat practice and gather potion materials. There's too much to do every day."

So making money…

"I'll just leave that to my shameless parents. They're an old couple, yet they still act like newlyweds every day."

Instead of struggling as a self-made millionaire, it was better to be a second-generation rich kid with easy access to wealth.

"I'll write to them soon. They need to get to work. As for my siblings, once I'm done with school, they can take their time building their families. There's no rush."

It wasn't enough to just push his parents to work. They had no business sense. If left alone, they'd probably invest in some terrible venture and lose everything.

So Root had to give them some direction—at least guide them toward businesses with guaranteed profit.

"I'll plan this out later. I'll think about it tonight and send a letter tomorrow."

Shaking his head, he set those thoughts aside and checked the system panel.

[Spell to be Refined]: Transfiguration

[Characteristics to be Unlocked]: Instantaneous Transformation Without Lag

[Refinement Task]: Use Transfiguration on Professor McGonagall once.

"…"

Root stared at the task description. His mouth twitched.

"What the—??"

Did they really expect him to Transfigure Minerva McGonagall, the most formidable Transfiguration master at Hogwarts?

Why not just tell him to attack Dumbledore while they were at it?!
