Shantel pulled out of the parking space with a hard jerk, not bothering to warn him. The car surged forward, and she kept her eyes firmly on the road.
"For someone who wants a conversation, you're surprisingly quiet," she said in a tone lazed with irritation after an uncomfortable silence.
"I'm waiting for you to stop pretending you're not dying to talk to me," Richard replied, reclining slightly in his seat. "I'm giving you space. Isn't that what people say they want?"
"Space? You followed me into my car."
He shrugged. "Didn't have a choice. Couldn't get to my car on time."
"Really?! Your car was parked right next to the entrance."
Shantel clenched her jaw, resisting the urge to drive straight into a wall. "You just had to make a show back there, didn't you?"
"If by 'show' you mean not letting you get humiliated in front of half of Rovencia, then yes," he said, turning his head to look at her. "You're welcome, by the way."
