The Mors immediately entered its Battle Phase and attacked Barghest. Even after her Attack Power had been reduced by 1000, she still had 800 more Attack Power than the Mors. Clearly, it intended to use its effect to destroy Barghest, then summon a 0-Attack Token to burn her Life Points.
Without the card Jiang You had given her, Barghest would have been helpless. Her own card, "Folwethyr," could only prevent destruction by battle, not by card effects.
The massive Mors slammed into Barghest, and its curse began to spread over her.
Mors A LP: 4000 → 3200
The Large Mors was directly destroyed, but its effect still activated, causing the curse to spread across Barghest's body.
"Hmph! You won't get away with this!"
Barghest raised Gawain's Sun Holy Sword. "The effect of Sword of Revolving Victory! When the equipped servant is destroyed by an effect, I can banish this card as a substitute! Negate this destruction!"
The Sword of Revolving Victory emitted a blinding light, dispelling the curse.
"..."
Mors writhed restlessly, but it was powerless to act further in the Battle Phase. It transitioned to Main Phase 2, slamming another Spell Card onto the field.
Spell Card: Wish for Self-Destruction II
1. Banish up to three servants from your Graveyard. For each servant banished, Special Summon one "Mors" servant from your Deck.
2. While this card is in your Graveyard, you can banish it to prevent the destruction of one "Mors" servant on the field.
The King of Mors was essentially Vortigern the Second, born from the corpse of Britain, an island consumed by its wish for self-destruction. This very desire that birthed it would ultimately lead to its demise.
Because Barghest's Graveyard contained no Servants, Mors had to banish two Servant Cards from his own Graveyard (one of which was the activation condition for Mors' Curse) and Special Summon two Mors cards from his Deck.
Large Mors: Attack Power 2500
Mors (Berserker, 4-Star): Attack Power 2000
Jiang You speculated that the reason Mors didn't summon two Large Mors cards was because his Deck only contained two. Regular Mors cards might be even rarer, or he might not have any Large Mors cards at all. These creatures were elite individuals; the effect of Mors was nearly identical to that of Large Mors, except it lacked the second effect.
Then, another Spell Card, Curse Propagation, was activated.
This card can target and destroy one Servant Card on the field. If the destruction is successful, Special Summon one "Mors Token" to your side of the field with Attack Power and Defense equal to the destroyed servant's.
Barghest's Backrow wasn't just for show. She decisively activated her Set Card: "I activate the Trap Card 'Belt of Perseus'! By paying 1000 Life Points, I select one 'Knight of the Round Table'. Until the end of my next turn, the selected servant cannot be targeted by effects or destroyed by battle!"
The Knight could also have released her Weapon, the Fairy Sword Excalibur Galatine, to achieve the same effect. In her next turn, she could even pay another 1000 Life Points to replenish Excalibur Galatine from her Deck. However, Barghest learned quickly. While Excalibur Galatine could counter all targeting effects and offered broader defensive coverage, there was a vulnerable gap between drawing the card and equipping it. It could easily be taken down during that period. Therefore, she chose to activate the Trap Card directly.
Barghest LP: 3000 → 2000.
Mors, out of options, set one card face-down and ended his turn.
"My turn! I draw!"
Barghest drew, bringing her hand size to two.
"If you don't destroy that 'Mors' Curse,' you'll only have one attack left. Are you sure about this?"
Jiang You wasn't actually worried about Barghest losing. If she had ignored everything earlier, "Barghest, Calamity of the Beast" would have hit the field directly. A monster of that caliber could easily secure victory for Fairy Gawain.
"Don't worry. I've already won. And it's all thanks to the power you gave me!"
Barghest didn't even need to look at the card she'd just drawn. She immediately activated the card she'd held onto from her previous turn.
"I activate the Continuous Spell Card 'Blessing of the Everlasting Day'! I target myself! While this card is on the field, the targeted 'Knights of the Round Table' Servant's Attack and Defense become triple its original values! This card is destroyed at the end of the turn it was activated!"
This Spell Card had other effects, but they weren't relevant to the battle, so I won't repeat them.
The Lion King's Blessing took effect on Barghest. The already powerful Barghest now radiated an aura even more menacing than her Calamity of the Beast form.
Fairy Knight Gawain: Attack Power 3300 → 8400!
"Enter the Battle Phase!"
Barghest immediately launched her attack. "I am now invincible! Target: Mors!"
Mors writhed violently, realizing that if this strike landed, survival would be impossible. It activated its Set Card—a Trap Card capable of intercepting attacks.
"Weak and useless! The effect of Excalibur Galatine prevents the equipped servant from being affected by other card effects from the moment they declare an attack until the end of the Damage Step!"
The burning greatsword momentarily eclipsed the sun, its strike nearly piercing through the earth itself!
The 6400 points of battle damage were twice Mors' remaining Life Points. Mors instantly disintegrated into ash. After its cursed shell crumbled away, a fairy wearing knightly armor fell from within.
Barghest was overjoyed. Jiang You's Noble Phantasm really could eliminate the curse!
"This armor... it's a Queen's Knight's... But even a Mors born from a Knight shouldn't be this strong."
Barghest remained puzzled. This creature was by far the strongest Mors she had ever cleansed.
"I think I've seen this Fairy before."
Jiang You frequently met with Morgan and had seen many Queen's Knights. If one left an impression, it was likely because they had spoken somewhere.
"I remember now! Isn't this the Queen's Knight Morgan assigned to guard Fairy Tristan's residence?"
"Court Scribe?"
The Queen's Knight slowly opened his eyes, clearly remembering Jiang You.
"I... I thought I had turned into a Mors... Why have I returned to normal...?"
"Never mind that for now."
Jiang You brushed the question aside. "I recall Morgan's orders were for you to ensure the security around the Princess's mansion. You shouldn't have had many opportunities to leave the city. How did you get infected?"
"I... my memories are fragmented, but my last clear impression was still being in the city. There's a ceremony planned soon, with many guests. Who did I greet...? Oh no! Princess Tristan... Princess Tristan seems to be preparing to transform others into Mors!"
