"Do you really believe what you just said?" Nikolas asked, his voice heavy as he tried his best not to look at her.
He could feel the pit of his stomach drop even further at the words she had said. It was as though someone was pushing a sharp knife through his heart.
How could she say that? He thought angrily, his fingers tightening around the steering wheel. The only reason he was sitting here beside her was because he could not stop caring, no matter how hard he tried.
"You didn't seem to care much while you were avoiding me last week," Selene responded, her eyes still looking out the window, now glazed over with a film of tears.
No, she wouldn't let him see how much he had gotten to her, how much his actions had really hurt her. She folded both arms across her chest. She was not going to let her emotions betray her.
