"We're doing this together, Selene. You and me, always," Nikolas said softly, intertwining his fingers with hers as they walked into the compound.
"We're just testing the waters. The moment you start feeling uncomfortable, you let me know and we are out of there," he added firmly.
Selene only nodded, as she turned to give him a stiff smile. Her blue eyes held faint traces of fear.
Nikolas felt his stomach sink as he caught her gaze briefly before she quickly looked away. She looked terrified, and paler than he had ever seen her.
Not even the day they announced their relationship to the press outside the hotel, with flashing cameras and shouting reporters, had she appeared this shaken. Right now, she looked as white as a ghost.
He could literally feel her trembling. Her steps had grown hesitant and slow the moment they crossed the gate, forcing him to adjust his own pace. He didn't mind.
