Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The Usurper's Fear

My claws stretched again without me meaning to. "Then they can be the first to feel the new Alpha's justice."

Olivia didn't move. "Is it true what they're saying? That you helped frame Amara? That you betrayed Charles?"

I studied her face. Was she loyal to me, or just another spy?

"What I did," I said slowly, "I did for the good of the pack. Charles was weak. He hid his daughter away for years because of some promise. He was afraid of her power."

"And you're not?" There was a note of skepticism in her voice.

I laughed, though it sounded hollow even to my ears. "I welcome power, Olivia. I don't fear it."

That was a lie. I was afraid of Amara's power. Of what she could do when she returned. Of what the Mother would do if I failed her.

"Go," I told Olivia. "Prepare the men. Anyone who refuses to fight for me will be killed for treason." I barked this orders at her, my face set. Quickly she turned and left
