V1/Chapter 78: It's not fair, they have six Herrschers.
The Herrscher Core is the most valuable thing that humans can obtain from the Herrscher, its existence alone is enough to subvert humans' understanding of the world.
As the source of energy for the Herrschers, the Herrscher Core itself does not possess immense energy. After all, no matter how much energy it can store, there is ultimately an upper limit. If it were merely a container for energy, then the Herrscher would not be able to unleash their power so freely.
Therefore, the Herrscher Core is more like a gateway. By activating the Herrscher Core, the Herrscher can draw energy from the Cocoon of the Finality. Although there is a theoretical upper limit to this energy, for humans who live only on the surface of the Earth, such energy is enough to be considered "infinite."
However, compared to the Herrschers, humans are limited in their use of the Herrscher Core. Even when relying on the power of a simulated Herrscher to control the Herrscher Core, they can only allow it to absorb enough energy from the Cocoon of the Finality like a rechargeable battery before using it. And this energy typically lasts for only about two hours.
But for the war at hand, two hours is more than enough.
Kevin looked down at his hands. Along with the prompt from the armor system, the weapon system paired with the Herrscher Core appeared before him—a massive sword engulfed in flames. The scorching heat emanating from it could be felt even through the armor.
"The core of the Herrscher of Fire?"
Kevin couldn't help but recall the moment he had killed his former comrade with his own hands. In the end, he simply grasped the hilt of the sword and did not use his ability to resist the high temperature. Instead, he allowed the searing heat to burn his palm. "Indeed, it is a weapon worthy of me."
In Kevin's view, only something that can be fully controlled can be called a weapon. Anything with hidden dangers or the potential for backlash is difficult to trust and rely on. Using such things in battle is undoubtedly irresponsible to one's own life.
Among all people, perhaps only he, who can control ice, can completely suppress this violent core.
With this thought, he finally readjusted his mindset and focused his gaze on the Herrscher Legion in the distance. As he moved, the temperature around him began to drop rapidly.
The armor Kevin wore did not have many flashy functions, as such things were unnecessary for the strongest fusion warrior. The sole purpose of this armor was to grant him the ability of short-term flight and quantum stealth, making him more agile in combat.
As Kevin entered combat mode, the sword in his hand grew hotter and hotter, and the leaping flames gradually rose. Under the restraint of the weapon, it transformed into a blazing sword over ten meters tall. Just looking at this scene would give you the illusion that your retinas were burning.
This scene was obviously noticed by the Herrscher Legion, so even though they were still a long distance away, they still launched an attack.
In an instant, all kinds of fireballs, wind blades, ice cones, electric chains, rock pillars, and other chaotic projectiles flew toward Kevin and the others. The scene was so shocking that it reminded people of the mage legions that only existed in fantasy novels and online games.
However, although this scene looked intimidating, that was all it was.
Facing the Herrscher's attack, Kevin took only one action.
Swing the sword.
The massive sword of fire transformed into a terrifying red curtain as it was swung, pushing directly toward the Herrscher Legion. Wherever it passed, whether it was the Herrscher's offensive or the Honkai beasts blocking the way, everything was turned to ashes, and even the traces of their existence in the world were wiped out.
Even the desolate earth was melted by the scorching heat, and magma could be seen flowing on the charred ground.
"Such an exaggerated power..."
Ato, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but show a stunned expression. "I say, why do I feel like this war doesn't need us at all?"
Kosma didn't say anything, just nodded silently. Even the excitement he had felt upon receiving the armor had dissipated significantly at this moment.
Will there ever be a day when we can close this visibly widening gap?
If Kevin's teammates were merely amazed, the enemies—the Herrschers—were terrified. The Herrscher Legion, which had never stopped even under the relentless assault of the drone swarm, paused for a moment at this sight.
Although they eventually chose to press on, it was clear from that moment that their resolve was wavering.
Kevin shook his head at the sighs of the others. "I just tested the weapon's maximum power. If I keep using attacks like this, even I won't be able to withstand it."
The power wielded by the Herrscher of Fire is the most destructive among all Herrschers. Even the power to control gravity cannot match it. Although Kevin had prepared by using thick ice armor to isolate himself from the weapon, the moment the sword's power fully erupted, all the ice armor on his body evaporated instantly, skipping the vaporization process entirely.
It was only then that Kevin realized the superiority of this armor. Despite being in close contact with such terrifying heat, the armor did not malfunction. Except for his hands, which had touched the sword, Kevin's body felt no burning pain.
Kevin even suspected that the hand armor could also completely isolate the temperature. The "flaw" was likely left intentionally to allow him to sense the weapon's status at all times.
Pain is a protective mechanism of the human body. By feeling the weapon's temperature change, Kevin could better protect himself.
Meanwhile, the other fusion warriors were also adapting to the Herrscher Cores they were using. However, compared to Kevin's overwhelming display, the others' movements were much more subdued.
"Are you all ready?"
After readjusting the energy output of the greatsword, Kevin turned to his comrades. After receiving unanimous confirmation, the young warrior nodded. "Then, Ato and I will lead the charge. Elysia and Dystopia will provide long-range cover and support. Sakura and Kosma will flank the enemy."
As he spoke, he glanced at the last three individuals. Unlike his comrades, these three were not under his direct command.
Moreover, since Kevin didn't fully understand their abilities, it was difficult for him to assign them specific roles.
"We'll just have to see how things unfold,"
Seeing Kevin hesitate, Vill-V naturally understood his concerns and immediately tugged at Mobius's sleeve. "Don't worry, we won't interfere with your operations, right?"
"Ah? Oh."
Mobius snapped out of her thoughts and nodded absentmindedly. "Don't worry, you guys focus on your battle. Don't mind me."
Although Kevin felt uneasy about Mobius's reaction, he didn't press further. He turned back and raised his sword. "Then, let the battle begin!"
Following Kevin's command, everyone sprang into action.
Kevin, wielding the scarlet sword, charged toward the Herrscher Legion, but Ato was faster.
To compensate for Ato's lack of mobility, Ai Yue had equipped him with the Herrscher Core of the Fourth Herrscher, the "Herrscher of Wind." The power to create an ideal fluid was applied to his armor, allowing him to move as swiftly as the wind.
Under Ato's personal fighting style, the gentle breeze quickly turned into a raging storm, howling toward the Herrscher Legion.
Yet, he was not the first to inflict damage on the Herrschers.
Because Elysia had already released her fully drawn bowstring.
The crystalline arrow generated by her ability had just left the bow when it was swallowed by a golden-edged portal. The next second, the portal opened within the Herrscher Legion, allowing the arrow to cross the distance instantly and appear directly in front of its target.
If someone nearby hadn't pulled the target back in time, the arrow would have pierced their arm, and the Herrscher Legion would have been decimated in an instant.
"What a shame."
Elysia plucked the bowstring, touched the Herrscher Core embedded in her armor, and sighed. "Should I open the portal closer next time? Or..."
She drew the bow again and fired another arrow. This time, she used the same trick, opening a portal in front of the target, but the Herrscher dodged it again.
However, just as the arrow was about to hit the ground, a second portal opened, swallowing the arrow and spitting it out from another angle. It looked as though the arrow had turned a corner and flew back toward the target's forehead, catching them off guard.
This time, there was no escape.
"Well, that's more like it."
Elysia showed no joy at her success. She merely touched the Herrscher Core again and muttered, "I never thought I'd be able to control you like this one day."
Compared to Elysia's precise sniping, Dystopia's attack was far more overwhelming.
Equipped with the Herrscher Core of the Ninth Herrscher, the "Herrscher of Rock," Dystopia temporarily gained the ability to control gravity. This power, combined with the "mental wave frequency amplification device" on her armor, amplified her telekinesis to an terrifying level.
While the Herrschers were distracted by the two warriors charging at them, Dystopia was preparing something massive.
With her at the center, everything around her began to float—rocks, soil, building debris, even trees, vegetation, and the bones of dead animals. All of it rose into the air under Dystopia's control, gradually merging into a single entity.
An artificial meteorite, under Dystopia's command, hurtled toward the Herrschers.
Even without considering the telekinesis and gravity applied by Dystopia, the sheer mass of the meteorite posed a significant threat to the Herrschers.
Just as the Herrschers scattered to avoid the meteorite, they realized they had fallen into a trap.
Faced with their disorganized formation, the beast lurking in the shadows finally revealed its fangs.
For a long time, Kosma had been responsible for protecting Dystopia due to the fragility of the psycho-perception fusion warrior. However, with the protection of the armor, Dystopia's weaknesses were compensated, freeing Kosma from defensive duties.
It was then that the Herrschers realized the horror of the beast they were facing.
Kosma's armor had a unique transformable function. While it couldn't turn him into a beast or a vehicle, it allowed every part of his body to become a deadly weapon.
His hands, elbows, shoulders, knees, toes—even his head—sprouted sharp edges under his control, making the already fierce armor even more brutal. Most terrifying were the strange colors flowing on the edges.
That was the color of "death"—emanating from the Herrscher Core of the "Herrscher of Death." Even a scratch from these blades would cause cells to wither, leading to weakness and death.
Faced with such a ferocious beast, the Herrschers chose to retreat, resorting only to long-range attacks. However, few noticed the cold glint occasionally flashing in the shadows.
As a former member of the assassination team, Sakura excelled in lightning-fast swordsmanship. Even Kevin had to pay a heavy price to face her attacks. The armor designed for her by Ai Yue enhanced her speed and equipped her with optical camouflage, greatly improving her stealth.
On top of that, Sakura had obtained the Herrscher Core of the "Herrscher of Thunder," granting her control over electromagnetic force. Although she couldn't yet fully utilize the core's power, the electromagnetic enhancement to her speed and sword strikes was enough to secure countless victories against the Herrscher Legion.
Every time Sakura drew her sword, a life was taken.
Under the full-force assault of the six fusion warriors and their Herrscher Cores, the Herrscher Legion was utterly routed. Ever since the artificial meteorite entered the battlefield and scattered their formation, they had been unable to regroup. Despite their desperate resistance, it was only a matter of time before the Herrscher Legion was completely annihilated.
"It looks like we don't need to take any action."
Vill-V wore a satisfied smile but spoke with regret. "What a pity. It's so rare that I got to use the Herrscher Core. I was hoping to have some fun with it."
On the toolbox hanging at her waist was embedded a gray crystal—the core of the "Herrscher of Reason." With it, one could directly control Honkai energy and construct anything within the user's knowledge.
Clearly, it was difficult for a warrior to fully utilize its power, so it was given to Vill-V.
"Anyway, all you need to do is collect data, right?"
"Right."
Mobius replied without taking her eyes off the battlefield. "The advantage... is wrong."
Vill-V looked at her curiously. "What's wrong?"
"This group is a bit... too disorganized."
Mobius showed a thoughtful expression. "If they only had this level of cohesion, how could they have gathered everyone from across the world in just ten hours?"
"Now it's like... they've lost their backbone."
