Sera's Pov
The music faded beneath the night sky, replaced by quiet laughter and the warm press of bodies saying goodbye. I stood by Lucian's side, my fingers laced through his, the mark still pulsing faintly on my skin like a second heartbeat. Everywhere around us, our people smiled, touched their chests in respect, and offered quiet blessings.
We were mated.
It still didn't feel real.
Lisa threw her arms around me, whispering something inappropriate that made my face burn and Lucian raise a brow in warning.
"If he doesn't make you walk funny tomorrow, I swear I'll come in there myself."
"Lisa," I hissed, scandalized and red-cheeked, but she just cackled, hugging me tighter before dashing off.
Corin was subtler, but his smirk said plenty. "If you two don't come out until next week, I'll hold your duties until then. But after that, Sera? A lot of meetings for you."
"Cruel," I muttered.
"Necessary." His gaze lingered, softer now. "Enjoy your night. Both of you… deserve it."
