(Third person pov)

Sera woke with a start, breath caught in her throat, skin flushed. A fine sheen of sweat coated her chest and neck despite the cool breeze drifting through the window. For a moment, she lay there, blinking up at the ceiling, trying to shake the dream that clung to her like heat.

Lucian stirred beside her, arm slung lazily over her waist. The bare contact alone made something deep inside her twist. She swallowed, slowly rolling almost on top him, gaze landing on the slope of his bare shoulder and the tousled strands of his hair. He smelled good. No—he smelled incredible. Earthy, warm, distinctly him. She buried her nose into the crook of his neck without thinking, inhaling deeply like some scent-starved animal.

Lucian made a noise somewhere between a grunt and a chuckle. "Morning," he said, voice rough with sleep.

"Morning," she murmured against his skin, but made no move to pull away.

He opened one eye. "You're clingy today."
