"Ayr? I did get a warning from him not to hit your Roger Pirates." Golden Lion hovered in the air, arms crossed, expression indifferent. He had originally intended to use Ayr's personal ties to track down Roger's crew, but in the end all he received was a warning. The warning unsettled him, yet with Kaido as his ally, fear was unnecessary. He thought Ayr would eventually appear to stop him during his search, which would have given him the perfect excuse to strike first with Kaido at his side. But things had shifted—before Ayr could even notice his movements, he had already located the Roger Pirates himself.

"So, you still want to go your own way and attack our Roger Pirates, Shiki?" Jabba's tone was sharp.

"Jiehahaha, don't be so rude. I, Shiki, came here today to recruit you, Roger Pirates! Join me, Roger, become my right hand! With our power combined, the world itself will belong to us!" Golden Lion extended a massive hand.

"I refuse, Shiki!" Roger shot back without a moment's pause.

The rejection made Buggy panic instantly; in front of him stretched dozens of battleships, carrying thousands of pirates under Golden Lion's command. Terrified, he clutched his head and wailed, "Captain Roger, life is the most important thing! Let's escape before the Golden Lion kills us!" He knew Roger's strength, but sheer numbers meant death was almost certain for someone as weak as himself. Buggy had never become a pirate to die gloriously in battle—he wanted treasure, not a coffin.

Shanks, calm even in the face of overwhelming odds, rested a hand on his hip and scoffed, "You can't stop it now, so what?"

Buggy cursed, furious. He had eaten the Chop-Chop Fruit and could split apart, making him hard to strike, but he knew his weaknesses better than anyone. His feet could not fly. If the enemy's attack was fast enough, he wouldn't have time to split, and he would still bleed. Muttering in despair, he dashed to the ship's doctor. "Mr. Crocus, how's the captain's condition? He can't fight like this! As a doctor, stop him!"

Crocus, famed across the world for his skill, had already diagnosed Roger with a terminal illness. His treatment had delayed the inevitable, keeping Roger strong enough to sail, but the truth had not changed: Roger's time was limited. Yet today, Crocus smiled faintly as he picked up his weapon. "Unfortunately for you, Buggy, he's at his best right now. Fighting is no problem."

Buggy's face collapsed in despair. He turned, screaming, "Mr. Rayleigh!" But before he could run any further, Jabba caught him by the hair and grinned. "Give up, Buggy. You've been here long enough to know once Roger decides something, no one can change it. This battle is inevitable." Reluctant as he was to clash with Golden Lion's overwhelming forces, Jabba knew retreat no longer existed; the only choice left was to fight.

Buggy howled in misery. In the future, he would be hailed as one of the Four Emperors, but right now he was only a boy, fearful and weak, clinging to dreams of gold rather than glory.

Rayleigh's calm voice cut through the chaos. "Trust the Oro Jackson, Buggy. Roger's time is running out. We have no other opinions to offer—he's our captain, and we follow him." Everyone aboard knew Crocus' skills could only delay, not cure, the terminal illness that would one day take Roger's life.

High above, Golden Lion did not immediately launch his attack. Instead, he tried once more. "How many times must I say it, Roger? Whatever grudges we had in our youth, let's leave them behind! With the world-destroying weapons you know of, my military might, and decades of careful planning, not even Ayr, the Marines, or the World Government could stand in our way. Stand at my side, Roger—the world itself will bow before us!" His words thundered across the sea, ambition blazing.

Golden Lion's obsession had deep roots. During the Rocks era, Ayr and even Charlotte Linlin had both attempted to recruit Roger, which only made Shiki crave him more. Though Roger had refused time and again—whether through secret approaches or open clashes—Golden Lion never abandoned the thought. Even after the Valley of the Gods, even through the New World's endless territorial wars, he still burned to make Roger his ally. Now, in this critical moment, he set aside every old grievance and offered his hand in sincerity. For Golden Lion understood well: the Roger Pirates were terrifying in their own right, and if they truly knew where to find the weapons capable of destroying the world, they were worth far more as allies than enemies.

Roger stood tall at the bow, gaze locked on Shiki without flinching. "I've told you clearly, Shiki. I'm not interested in ruling the world. If being a pirate isn't about freedom, about living as you wish, then what's the point? No matter how much you try to pressure me, the choice is mine alone—and I refuse you again!"

He had no years to waste. With death looming, all that mattered was finding the Poneglyphs and uncovering the world's true history. Ruling, conquering, domination—those were empty things. Shiki could gather all the fleets he wanted, but Roger would not bend.

Ayr had not yet fully checked Golden Lion's ambitions, and now the Roger Pirates faced the Flying Pirates in their entirety. But Roger did not fear. If Shiki wanted battle, then so be it.
