Chapter 3 - Angel Dust

It's been a few months since I started making contracts, and so far... It's been pointless.

No one has ever actually needed a contract in the hotel because no one ever visits. I like the peace honestly, it's been a nice change of pace.

Compared to the tiring days of looking through cases, and analysing every little detail, looking for clues on criminals, this has been far more comfortable in comparison.

I really havn't even needed to do much recently, after making the initial contracts. I've started to feel like I'm freloading to be honest.

Looking up from my desk, I think about the souls that I've ended up collecting while making some contracts outside the hotel. Frankly, it was a bit surprising, but a lot of demons were very insistent on paying upfront instead of owing anything.

These demons must have been traumatised by watching others lose their own souls after failing to meet the conditions of their deals with other Overlords.

"I should probably put some more effort into creating more combat techniques with cursed energy.

I've been putting it off since I'm already overpowered, but what if I could kill an angel without any of that angelic steel or whatever it was called."

'Hmm, what to do, what to do?'

Getting up from my desk in the Lobby of the Hotel, I walk towards the main the doors.

'Maybe I can find some inspiration outside the hotel. There are a lot of of demons fighting constantly, their has got to be something useful that I can take from my time outside.'

"Hey, Dante! Where are you going?"

I turn around to see Charlie approaching with what appears to be a new guest. I probably didn't notice them arriving due to being deep in thought beforehand.

"Charlie, my dear. I was just going out for a stroll to get some inspiration. I seem to be doing very little lately, and it doesn't sit well with me."

"Ah, it has been rather quiet lately hasn't it? Buuuut, have you met our new guest?"

Charlie excitedly places her hands on the shoulders of what looks to be Angel Dust, and jumps up and down in glee.

"I don't believe that I've had the pleasure, I seem to have been deep in thought earlier and missed their entrance.

Excuse my rudeness for not welcoming you sooner, I am this fine establishments contract maker, Analyst, and protector."

"Ooh, that seems to be a lot of roles to fill sugar. The names Angel Dust, and I like a man that can work hard."

Angel shook his hips a little to make sure the innuendo he was making got across, giving a little wink just in case.

"Hm, yes. Well I do love to stay active, I don't often allow myself to rest for long, sometimes I can go on all night."

I smirk while spinning my cane, before leaning on it, deciding to entertain him for a little bit.

Angel let's off a little gasp of amusement, clearly not expecting me to go along with his flirting.

"Ah, am I missing something? I feel like I'm not understanding some hidden message."

"Sweety, you are so innocent that it's a little adorable." Angel chuckles.

"Just a little teasing, don't worry Charlie."

"Oh, ok."

Charlie looks a little uncomfortable at not being able to understand what we were saying.

'Someone so innocent in a place like hell needs to be protected at all costs, and not just because it's amusing.'

"Oh, Dante! We've finally used on of the contracts!"

"Oh?" That interests me a little. I honestly never thought that Charlie would actually use any of the contracts. At modt, I expected Vaggie to make use of them on people she didn't trust, like Alastor.

"Yeah. I was thinking about it and realised that this can be helpful for people with drug and alcohol problems."

"I see! You used the contract to forbid the willing usage of drugs and alcohol for Angel, and in return he gets a room and aid in redemption."

'That's pretty smart. I definitely didn't expect Charlie to come up with this. I'm not calling her dumb, but it seems more like something Husk would come up with.'

"Smart usage of the contract Charlie. I hadn't thought of using them this way."

'Lie. I've done it five times already, and got two hundred souls from this alone. The people in this place are really desperate, not to mention messed up. Some of the stuff I saw in my first week he really put things into perspective about hard life can be for those really suffering.'

"Oh, you really should. We could help so many people by doing this, and it's not like we would be taking the choice away from anyone, as they'd have asked for this themselves."

Charlies seems really...enthusiastic about this. She is quite literally bouncing up and down now, her eyes open wide and arms in the air.

"Ok, calm down Charlie. I understand, you want to help all of hell be redeemed, but let's not forget that they have to choose to be saved first."

'Sorry to pour cold water on your plan Charlie, but I'm not going to be able to get as many souls if you advertise this currently. Maybe once I've got my fair share outside the hotel, I can leak the news that this is a feature here.'

'Wait...completely irrelevant to what we' ve been talking about but...can my runes be used to kill angels? Maybe crafting a couple of swords from demonite and using runes to add a little holy power...

I need to study this, it will take a while to figure out, but holy shit, this will be useful if I want to survive the purges.'

"-te...Dante!"

I shake my head, focusing back on the conversation that was happening while I was spaced out.

"Sorry about that. It seems I had some inspiration and ended up spacing out for a few seconds."

"Oh, that was fast. Anyway, I just remembered something in the contract we signed."

This got my full concentration, this is a contract where I have to actually do something after all.

"You said that you'd give some free Analysis consultations, but far does your analysis ability go?"

"Interesting question, which I will gladly answer. Based on information gathered through analysing my, or my target's surroundings, clues found, known information, and people involved in the query, I can see the past, present, and future of my target."

"In other words, for us... Less educated people, butter cup?" Angel asks, tilting his head.

"I can give you information on what you want know as long as I have something or someone connected to your question nearby. The more I have, the more detailed the result."

"Ah... Isn't that just normal investigation?"

"Can normal investigation literally see the past and/or future?"

"Touché."

"Ah, I have an idea!" Charlie squeals, rushing around the hotel, most likely looking for Vaggie.

"I'm going to regret telling her about that arn't I?"

"That seems to go without saying, honey."

*sigh*

"Well, at least I can guess what she's going to ask, and I don't really mind supplying the answer. It won't change the fate of the hotel either way."
