Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: Heading to Beacon Hills

When he returns, Peter adds the missing items to his suitcase. Knowing he won't have to leave some of his personal belongings behind as initially intended due to space constraints, he decides to fill another suitcase.

He goes through all his belongings, sorting them into piles according to their importance and sentimentality, discarding all the useless junk he's kept over the years.

Once he's sorted through them, Peter puts everything he wants to take with him into his second suitcase, ensuring it's well-protected so it doesn't break, if that's possible within his system's inventory.

Peter returns to his room and puts the things he won't or can't take with him back where they came from due to spatial constraints, personal feelings, or practicality.

He sits at his desk, checking the rental car company's website to see if the car he hired for tomorrow's journey is still available, hoping nothing terrible has happened.

Thankfully, he was right. Nothing untoward or unexpected has happened, and his car, accompanied by the driver, will be at his home tomorrow at the specified time.

Once he was sure everything was in order, he passed the rest of the day idling around his home, sporadically using his only active skill to get more experience with its usage.

When night came, and it was time to go to sleep, Peter repeated the actions of the previous day, falling asleep after completing his third "Full Use".

The following day, when he woke up to the rising sun, he had his morning breakfast, melancholically remembering his life and the memories in the home he was leaving.

However, he doesn't let it stop him for long, as excitement represses the melancholy, urging him to prepare for the day and the long drive ahead.

After a long, scorching hot shower, he packed up his laptop and placed it in his bag, retrieving the chargers and cables he had been unable to remove before now.

He takes them, his bag and himself to the door, looking around his home one last time before walking out and locking up his house.

Peter walked out of the apartment building, saying goodbye to any of his neighbours who were currently walking around the building, and headed downstairs to the lobby to wait for his ride.

When he arrived, he sat in one of the few available chairs and took out one of his favourite books, reading it to pass the time.

Thankfully, Peter didn't have to wait long as the driver, who was very good at his job, arrived a few minutes before the time Peter specified.

The driver escorted Peter to his car, confirming with the teen that he was the man sent to drive him through a security feature the company created for customer peace of mind.

He asked Peter where his luggage was, as they needed to get it in the car's trunk before heading out on the road, before peak traffic on the highway.

Peter told him he was getting it delivered to his new home through a moving company, as he needed to bring more with him than he initially intended.

Hearing this, the driver accepted Peter's explanation for the lack of luggage and asked him to get in the car so they could begin their long drive.

Hours later, when it neared noon, the driver asked Peter if he wanted to stop at the next diner for a meal, which the young teen agreed to since he was getting hungry.

The driver soon stopped at a local diner, which catered to the needs of passing tourists and the dedicated truckers travelling cross-country.

Peter exited the car before parking, asking his driver what he wanted so he could order their food and secure a good seat inside.

He asked Peter to get him a classic cheeseburger with fries and a large glass of cola to quench his thirst, which Peter agreed to do.

The man tried to give Peter some money for the meal, but Peter walked off, saying as he went that he would pay for it himself.

Hearing this, the driver thanked Peter for his generosity since there was no point in arguing before he went to find a place to park.

Meanwhile, Peter entered the diner, finding a nice spot to sit as he looked at the menu.

He quickly found what they both wanted and called a waitress over, patiently waiting for her to work her way to him.

When she arrived, Peter politely placed his order, asking her how she was and what business was like before letting her leave.

The driver soon entered as Peter happily read a book while they waited for their meals.

Sitting opposite him, the driver asked Peter if he had the chance to place their order, to which the teen replied positively.

He asked Peter what he was reading, attempting to make small talk with his employer, who happily responded with the title of the book.

Peter discusses aspects of the story he finds interesting, using the driver as a sounding board for his theories.

While they wait for their food, the two continue making small talk, discussing their lives and habits without revealing too much since they are strangers.

Once their food arrived, they both fell quiet as they enjoyed their meal; their silence natural, as they didn't feel the need to talk while eating.

Eventually, their peaceful meal was disrupted when two burly men stormed into the building, acting dismissive and rude to the staff.

His attention drawn to the two men, Peter sees how they arrogantly swagger through the room, noticing how they look around the area before settling on him and his table.

Already knowing what they're going to say, he gets the driver's attention and subtly points their way, hearing the man sigh as he also guesses what's going to happen.

They watch as the two men get closer, and when they're right in their faces, they listen as one of them rudely says, "Get out of our spot! You're in our way."

Peter and his driver, not wanting to escalate the situation, pick up their food and, seeing a nearby table with no one sitting there, silently move over as they ignore the obnoxious men.

After the meal ends, Peter and the driver, not wanting to continue listening to the rude jerk's outbursts, pay for their meals and leave the restaurant. As he follows his driver to where the man parked the car, Peter, paying attention to his surroundings, notices the jerks from earlier beginning to stir and get up from their seats.

Knowing something is going to occur, as that's how these things always happen, Peter sighs in part exhaustion, though a small part of him is excited for what comes next.

Peter, not wanting his driver to be caught off guard, says, "The guys from earlier are getting up. They're heading this way and will likely start a confrontation."

Hearing this, the driver replies, "Understood. We'll be at the car before they can do anything, though. Bad luck to them."

Peter, unsurprised by his driver's lack of a reaction, happily laughs at the men's efforts to be a nuisance, though the part of him that wanted a fight is a little disappointed.

When they got in the car and left the parking lot to continue on their way, everything was going well for the first ten minutes. Eventually, though, Peter noticed a car quickly gaining ground on them.
